My dog is a big sissy, but when it comes to protecting her (my) children-she is nastier than a mama bear. 90 pounds of angry dog would deter a cat. My Maltese? She'd lick and groom the bobcat, then pee in it's lap.

The DEC lied. Many years ago the used to say that the northeast mountain lion was extinct and the sightings were false or the were ones that got away from private owners. I was a bit instrumental in getting the state to admit they introduced them into the wild. If I can find the link on the net I will post it here. Had to be 10 years ago. They still deny bears live here, and when one gets hit by a car they scramble to come up with some wild explanation. I really believe they don't want a lawsuit against the state for not protecting the citizens. They've even put radio collared wolves in upstate NY.

I had heard the DEC introduced the Mountain Lion back into this region of NY, never saw an article or had it confirmed. Someone also told me they introduced Rattlesnales too since they were endangered.

They also are not managing the Feral Hog problem and they spread like wildfire on a windy day. Soon it'll be open season on Hogs everyday -all day and it's going to be too late. They should give out tons of Doe tags too, they give them out so sparingly.

What you should look to get or borrow is a wildlife trail cam. Ask any hunters if they have one you can use. Even if you don't get shots of a mountain lion, you get to see who/what's in your yard at night which is really interesting. Get the reflective eyes you can put on your coop to fool predators.

Problem is I have  2 year old sis and a 8 year old bro.... A mountain loin would attack them in a heart beat... OR a bear...

I find it is amazing that the can track one, solely using DNA, from Colorado to Connecticut but can't find any in NYS. It is baffling.
We have bear less than five miles from me and it eats at my wife's friend's bird feeder...but, we still have no bears. Yeah, right!!!
Ticks are bad. Not only do you have Lyme disease, you now have Babesiosis there. And, it is spreading.

LOL I found one in my trash this morning AGAIN... He has been at it for 2 weeks now.. Lol we will put the cans in the garage for a few nights but as soon as they go outside.... BAM hes back lol
