Went to check on the girls tonight at bedtime.  Love my girls...

A+ in chicken math:  1 BS + 1 BR + 1 BA + 1 GC + 2 EE + 1 BO +1 SLW + 1 SS + 1 LO + 1 GLW + 1 BCM + 1 AW + 1 BCF = 8.  I am married to The King of Coops and I have a firefighter daughter who's my hero.  We also have a spoiled designer dog (a/k/a expensive mutt), a deaf calico cat and Brutus, the wonder cat.

Suzanne; You might want to treat your other cat even though you are keeping them separate. (I think you said you had another cat. Its a blonde thing) Also please don't waste your money on flea collars. The only fleas you will kill with them is if you squash one as you are tightening the strap .

I already treated the dog with Frontline, and ordered some Advantage II for the other cat.  Laura stripped all the bedding, etc.  I read that if you put a dish of water with liquid Dawn in it, it attracts the fleas.  I haven't seen any fleas anywhere other than on the kitten, and not too many at that.  Neither Laura nor I have been bitten at all.  But I know you must nip these things in the bud.  Especially in warm weather.

I was amazed at how well the Dawn bath worked on Brutus.  A few fleas literally ran off his body!  All told, he had about 20 fleas on him.  Not exactly an infestation, but I know they're like rats.  If you see one, there are 6 you don't see.

I used to work in a vet's office, so I got a real giggle about the flea collar thing.

Hi Jocelyn and welcome to the best thread on BYC!

Yeah, that's the inside of my coop.  Cheapo paneling = easy to clean.  It looks especially deluxe covered in chicken poop!  gig.gif

Where are you from?

I'm Suzanne.

Hi Suzanne! I live in Centereach, and would love to make some chicken raising friends! I am just getting started here, we picked up our chicks Tuesday, and will begin the coop Sunday.

Shout out to all: I would love some advice on what you have found to be the key features in our coop. I've been reading so much sometimes its hard to tell what to believe.

The coop plans I have call for the door and ramp to come from the bottom of the coop, but I think I'd prefer it out the side so the bottom would be easier to clean and I could use a big piece of lino or something easy to scrape. Any thoughts?

Hope you all have a great time at the show on Saturday!

Well, Their isno one key feauture in a coop. Every thing comes together to create a "Key" coop =] But I really love my roosts, I make them out of saplings..... also, I use the Deep Litter Method, and I love it.... ummmm On thing i would fix is that instead of have two nest box rows (6 in each) one on top of the other, Iwould have 12 in a row, OR have the top one 3 feet off of the ground... ATM i have on 18" and the other 48"..... I didnt really understand, "The coop plans I have call for the door and ramp to come from the bottom of the coop, but I think I'd prefer it out the side so the bottom would be easier to clean and I could use a big piece of lino or something easy to scrape.
