Had some big rain earlier.  Looks nasty now, but nothing coming down at the moment.

Off to Hampton Bays to pick up the stepping stones.

Temp in the bator is 98 degrees.  68% humidity.  The ambient humidity is so high, I'm having trouble keeping it down in the incubator.  Gonna crack it for a couple of minutes to take some of the moisture out.

When I was a kid, I was scared of thunderstorms.  We had a cabin in the Catskills (near Callicoon, NY) and my dad sat with my on the porch during a storm.  It was so exciting.  I love thunderstorms now!

For the past few days a Baltimore oriole has been going crazy in the top of my tree. I really hope he gets the girl and they decide to stay in the yard this year. They are such amazing birds. Maybe I'll get some oranges and hang them up to try and entice them to stay.

I just went on weather underground and you should see the photos of a hail storm that went through South Carolina Did a number on someones veggie garden .

I opened the door to the run and tried to shoo the hens into the coop, which of course made the babies wig out.  3 hens in the coop, 3 in the yard zeroing right in on the new grass seed.  Time ticking for me to get to work, the dog chasing around the outside of the coop trying to get at the squirrel, and the squirrel unable to find the open coop door.  Good times.

How come you never have a video camera when you need one?

Finally, the squirrel ran out, the dog chased it, I threw mealworms into the coop to lure the errant hens back, and let the cooped up hens back into the run.  I was only 5 minutes late for work!

I love having pets.  It's so relaxing.  th.gif

Oh, oh, oh, I hear you. I would just add, "I love having pets and preschoolers at the same time." Sorry I disappeared for 48hrs life just got insane there - still is - oh my - you know the drill. I had a robin get caught in the exercise pen at the back of the coop the other day. I opened the big doors to get it out but then the puppy was running back and forth all excited which made the robin panic and not be able to find the open door, and well, you get the rest.

Suzanne, I did say thyme, I think it's creeping thyme that makes the ground cover. Moss is good too but it will get torn up by walking on it. You also need a wet environment for it. You can hit your local nursery and look around at what they have that fits your yard conditions the best, that usually works.
