Al you should go to Elephants trunk and meet Suzanne there. By the admission gate or the DONUTS.....Instead of eating them I should just super glue them to my thighs...

It's not going to happen overnight - they're about a year away from opening the facility.  The building (which is here in my hometown) needs construction to create housing and lock down wards, etc.  And I'm not HS or Special Ed certified, which I would need to be.  But I came home and did some research and found out that there's a graduate program for teaching students with disabilities grades 7-12 (I'm already general education certified for Pre-K through 6).  Two of the colleges I have degrees from (yeah, I know) have programs for this certificate. I'm an alumni, so admissions wouldn't be a problem.  I'm unemployed so I have the time to go to school and do student teaching, etc., etc.  I'd have to add to my student loan burden, but I'm going to check into getting grants, etc. because I'm unemployed and have to "re-tool".  And hey, I'm probably going to die owing my student loans anyway, so throw another log on the fire!

 

Most importantly, I would be working with kids in small groups, which I want to do, and using my experience and sobriety to give something back in return for all I've received.  It feels so RIGHT!  Fingers crossed it all works out.  But the area of greatest need for teachers right now is HS Special Education, so even if this particular venture doesn't come through, I'll be certified in an area where there are actual JOBS.

 Follow your passion.......when doors open run, don't walk through them. :)

 I am jealous! Nice finds. I collect lots of chicken and other o;d stuff too. Specially antique sewing machines and cabinets.....needlework accessories and use old spool/thread cabinets for storage.

Two beautiful 6 draw singers went for $20 each.  sounds  like we collect alot of the same thing. I own 2 working featherweights and all kind of sewing related things. There was also a nice milk glass hen on a nest but it had been repaired (really bad job).I'll have to post pictures all the things cleaned up nicely

Maggie, you would have LOVED Elephant's Trunk.  I saw a whole collection of cast iron bases for old sewing machines, and spool cabinets, etc.  I got some household stuff, a new doggie dish for the neglected Clara, a beautiful welcome rock for the new garden we're putting in on the side of the house and a big fat ceramic chicken.  As soon as I get my fat butt outta bed from a nap I'll post pictures.  Did I mention I also got donuts?

 

We were almost in a car accident on the way home.  An SUV in front of me on 684 was trying to get over to exit and no one would let him in (big surprise).  Then the guy in front of him pulled over suddenly onto the stripes so HE could exit and the guy in front of me hit him from behind.  I wasn't sure what was to my left, so I didn't swerve all the way over.  The guy in front of me swerved to the left after he hit the guy in front of him, but missed hitting me by like 2 inches.  I thought Bobby was gonna have a heart attack.  Hell, I thought I was gonna have a heart attack.  All this is happening at like 65 mph.  But no blood, no foul.  The car wasn't hit, we weren't hurt and we continued on our way.  Of course, I needed a decaf after that, so we drove around Mt. Kisco for awhile looking for a DD.  Nice town.  Very posh.

A+ in chicken math:  1 BS + 1 BR + 1 BA + 1 GC + 2 EE + 1 BO +1 SLW + 1 SS + 1 LO + 1 GLW + 1 BCM + 1 AW + 1 BCF = 8.  I am married to The King of Coops and I have a firefighter daughter who's my hero.  We also have a spoiled designer dog (a/k/a expensive mutt), a deaf calico cat and Brutus, the wonder cat.

Had I known earlier we could have made plans to meet Suzanne and Bobby. One day we're all gonna meet up.

Yeah, those cinnamon donuts are the best. Somehow, one bag just isnt enough... I'm sucker for the grilled foot long hot dog withTexas sauce, too. We'll probably be back there in a couple of weeks.

My **** chickens are still tearing each other's feathers out. This is really getting to me. I haven't let them out in a while because I would have to enclose the area to leave them out alone as we don't have fences between most of our neighbors. Usually, I'll stay out with them, but it is a pain sometimes.The racoons are being a real problem, and that is the main reason for the lockdown. This morning they had a garbage can flopped over and the contents all over the driveway in various stages of being torn apart. Of course, I forgot to put the bungee cord on after I took the garbage out last night. We are going to Home depot to get one of those commercial ones that are square with the integral lid. Should be real tough to knock it over and get at the trash, even if I forget the bungee cord.

Happy to hear you guys are alright. That had to be scary. 684, where 65mph translates easily into 85+mph. 20 years ago, rush hour was a 90mph run from the top to 287 and the Hutch.

Glad you had a good time. If you are ever going back let us know and we can meet up.

We will definitely go back.  We enjoyed it a lot.  The sun was a little too strong, but I like that there are a lot of places to stop and sit down.  Much more manageable than Stormville.  Although we are going THERE on Saturday!
