Oh and PS I know the guy to buy meat from. His name is John Boy - no, really - and he's obsessed with raising animals right. He sends out these email diatribes about how much he hates Monsanto and DuPont and I have to say I agree with him. I never wanted to get a chest freezer before because we get too many power outages but now we have a real generator, so it might be worth it. Maybe we could all split a cow, a hog, etc. I could also freeze about 20 more pounds of produce from the garden which would be tastier and easier than getting a pressure canner. Hmmm

But have to buy a chest freezer. You can't just throw it in the regular fridge freezer, the defrost cycle is what ruins everything.

Yeah-I used to have a chest freezer years ago-it was cool, but finding stuff was a real pain. The we got the industrial one we have now-it air locks like the space shuttle...Plus-no defrost-I'd have to unplug it for days to defrost it.

We also have a generator that we bought for the camper so I'm not crazy worried about losing power. (I'm the person with signs on the fridge "Don't open, I will kill you if my food goes bad" when we lose power...lau.gif

On the freezer we have now, I have a sign "If you are under the age of 20, and wish to survive to see the age of 20, you won't open this door" Funny though, these little boogers seem to know their lives aren't in jeopardy...Hmmmm.

Oh, and totally random, but I came across this link while looking up the others... This place is supposed to have amazing pie. Right around the corner from the fairgrounds in augusta (if you are ever in the area for, say, a chicken show, or the fair or something).

John Boy. I like it. It sounds like he should be raising farm animals, and swinging from a tire over a lake...lau.gif I hate all those GMO's and the like. Scary business if you ask me. I think if the farms in this country had less regulations-we wouldn't need all that modified stuff, and we could just have natural good food.

So, Good Morning! I've been up since 2:30. Got up to go to the bathroom (what's up with THAT??) and couldn't fall back to sleep. I forgot to mention yesterday, that I got MEAT CHICKENS. (my brain has holes too, but none that can be diagnosed, Heather! I'm hoping you stayed status quo!) The little critters are a week old today, and while relatively cute, even my kids said they're just not like the egg chickens. (Good-there will be no crying)

I have never seen a bunch of ANY kind of animal that just eats. that's all they want to do. They could have crops full to looking to explode, and they are STARVING. I marked them all with marker and weighed them-the average as of 2 days ago was 2.5 oz. But my kids check on them, and have said they've about doubled in size. in 4 days. I have to remove the food from their pen every night, or they'll just over gorge!!

Anyhow, after last nights storms, in which I don't think I lost any trees, I can imagine the branches and leaves that must cover my property. I hope the girls weren't too scared-it was brutal out there-the pounding rain and wind sounded like a train was going across my lawn...for an hour. My shepherd was huddled behind me. Anywhere I went-she was attached to me. I felt so bad for her-she literally blew her coat from nerves. Now, I feel bad for me-the vacuuming that I'll be doing today will be incredible. She's not usually much affected by storms, but the sounds last night were really scary.

So, that's the plan. Check the yard for damage, vacuum up the tumbleweeds, and then I need to make phone calls about cows. I sound like I live in Kansas. Thank goodness the kids are back in school today-they're driving me up a wall-constantly picking fights with each other, and under my feet all day-I got nothing really done in 4 days.

What's the plans for the day, folks?

Good morning, all.  For now anyway.  I was up until 2 am (huge nap yesterday) so being up at 6:30 can't last long.

I felt like I was on a ship in a hurricane last night.  Very scary noises, indeed.   Some water down in the man cave according to Bobby.  I haven't walked the back 40 to see if there's any real damage.

Is it wrong to be thankful that all that rain washed away the chicken poop on the patio?

Today's schedule includes coop cleaning, house cleaning (my brother's coming down from Buffalo) and a new tutoring client at 5pm.  yippiechickie.gif

But first, I need to take a better look at the inside of my eyelids.  I think I missed something.

A+ in chicken math:  1 BS + 1 BR + 1 BA + 1 GC + 2 EE + 1 BO +1 SLW + 1 SS + 1 LO + 1 GLW + 1 BCM + 1 AW + 1 BCF = 8.  I am married to The King of Coops and I have a firefighter daughter who's my hero.  We also have a spoiled designer dog (a/k/a expensive mutt), a deaf calico cat and Brutus, the wonder cat.

Good morning All... Well he made it to Vegas with no less than 7 phone calls to me to either complain or have me search for things on the computer. Wouldn't listen and take my iPad . You'd think by now he would just buy a smart phone.

Heather good luck at the doctor today.

My yard looks like SHiRT...
The girls are OK my dog barked a couple times last night while the storm was in full force.
Well chores,chores chores.....

Well this happened sometime last night -

Out of all the trees in our yard, the only one that fell down was the one right behind the coop. Surprisingly no "oops!" eggs on the floor under the roost, and all 6 are present and accounted for. Tree guys are coming sometime today to take a look at it, hopefully we'll get rid of it before the weekend.

Ok so I have to ask, which freezer do you have now? I looked on the PC Richards' website and there's a price range from like $500 to $6,000 for these things. Plus how much does it cost to run it in electricity? Argh. I always end up going back to well it's really cheaper if we're just all vegetarians. Good luck getting husband on board with that one though!
