HE Washers - Love? Hate? Opinions?

mine stinks too, so we leave the door proped open. I think they're just sealed too good if the door is closed, to dry out The MFGer recommends running an empty load once a month with bleach water to help clean it out.

We also get alot of hair etc when we do the dog towels or rugs, so we just run an empty cycle through it.

Does anyone have an under counter sized washer?

I have read about them and only have a tiny area to put a washer at moms, but it sure would be nice to quit paying $2.75 a load to use my washers.

That's what I do.

Me too. I meant that a load of clothes left sitting in damp will smell real fast but that is because they are only a little damp, really wet clothes take longer to work up a stink!

I run my whites last anyway. The only thing I found I didn't like was that occasionally if I ran whites then immediately ran colors I might get spots from bleach. If I do end up doing whites then a load of colors I put some water in the bleach holder and no spots....

I liked my first set of front loader Kenmore HE machines but gave them to my sil when we moved out of state. I bought a new set that was the next generation up and hated the washer. It messed up the collars on my hubby's polo shirts and didn't clean very well. The seal would collect all the scum and just get nasty. I had to use those cleaning tablets because the thing stunk. The little tray underneath where the pump was would fill and stagnate. I had it repaired a few times. The balance went out of whack a couple times and the repair guy said not to wash sheets and towels together because that would screw it up. I had a 4 year warranty on them and about 2 months after it expired my washer broke. It was the arm that spins the machine. What ever happened to the machines that my parents had. They lasted 15 to 20 years. Well we got a cheaper GE HE toploader and I hope that it lasts longer. One of my conclusions on the HE machines is that they DONT clean the laundry nearly as well. If I have to wash bedding that got wet I have to run it in the rinse cycle first then wash on extra heavy with bleach and a second rinse and sometimes a third washing as well. If this machine doesn't last much longer than the waranty I'm going back to the old style that uses alot of water.

I have a Whirlpool Duet front loader set and I looooove them

My DH works at a feedyard and we live here, too, so you can only imagine my laundry

For me, my HE washer gets our dirty clothes MUCH MUCH cleaner than my old regular washer did.

My only "complaint" is that these beasts are SO heavy that we had to reinforce the floor with 3/4" plywood underneath them or else it felt like the house was falling down when the washer went into a spin cycle. It could also be that our 1920's house just couldn't hold the weight, but the plywood fixed 90% of the problem.

Also leave the door to the washer cracked when not in use! That helps keep the stink away. If the washer does get stinky (and it will every 2 months or so), they sell Affresh Washer Cleaner at walmart and you run a "clean washer" cycle and it is as good as new.

I could never go back to the old, non-HE washer again. I love mine!

Sometimes a company makes a machine that works just fine and then they go an tinker with it and screw it all up!! I have noticed that more and more of the pieces of the newer model machines are plastic. My MIL got a dishwasher 2 and half years ago and it died. The housing for the pump motor was plastic!!

What ever you do.....DON'T get a GE Profile HE washer. That model is the worst HE washer ever

Doesn't fill up enough to wash anything but the smallest cleanest load of clothes. I have to drag a hose inside for decent sized loads otherwise the top clothes don't even get fully wet. It "swishes" the clothes and claims "Hydrowave" action to clean.

to GE I hate this washer.
