My Light Brahma Duke is a rooooo:) (PIC) - Page 4

Okay, Duke is a cockerel/roo.  Sunny is a pullet/hen (the one behind Sunny in the pic, however.....). Pepper?  Mello, do you have other, mature roos?  That might make a difference.

Nope. I keep an all girl under the radar type flock cool A friend of mine hatched about 8 more lt brahmas from the same batch of eggs on the same day...and I think about 4 or so of them were VERY obviously roos at about 4-5 weeks...does that make a difference?? Or is a slow roo a slow roo?

Gesine (EE/cochin X), Paula (EE), Claire (splash silkie), Pepper (lt. brahma), Pickle (splash silkie), Mary Angela Beyonce aka Mabs (EE), and Olive (OE)
Also...Colby (aka...pig ) and Brie (a squirelly gray tabby)

Okay, yeah.  Got a bit confused.  Duke is definitely a Dude and Sunny is a hen.  Mello's Pepper is the one that's still in question.  Let me see if I can hunt up another brahma expert.  I know one, but he's not online much.

I'm leaning towards pullet.  I just don't see the obvious roo signs in that one.  But still not sure.

Reason I asked about other roos - I've seen it with my own flocks.  Roos that aren't the alpha look amazingly like pullets, until you re-home the alpha.  Seemingly overnight, they start looking very much like roos.

I don't know you had Duke pegged from the get go...from a bad pic never the less.....seems to me you are the expert....I sure hope Duke stays sweet....he's way to big to be aggressive. I noticed now that he crowed the girls are around him all the time..or vice versa..lol They would go into different parts of my yard without him before....I also noticed he pays way more attention to the girls now too....someone turned the light bulb on....tee hee This is really fun watching everyone grow up:)

It is fun to watch them grow and watch the changes in the flock dynamics.  Soon you'll see Duke woo-ing his women and even beak feed them, which is so nice to see.  Then you'll know that he has control of his flock.  smile

So it's been a while- not sure if anyone is still watching this thread- but I wanted to say that I'm about 95% sure that my Pepper is a girl. Her feathers keep filling in and I'm still not seeing any signs of saddle feathers or any greeny sheen in the tail. Comb is still the same size/redness, so no change there. She's got a squeaky teenage voice now, and it sounds cluckish to me- no attempts at crowing and we are at almost 11 weeks.
