ok, so I don't have them YET, but I couldn't find a thread specifically for the Isbar so I started one

I have a juvenile pair of Blue Isbars coming soon(in a few weeks hopefully

) and I am looking forward to them. I will most definitely post pics of them when they get here and as they mature.

So, anyone else getting some Isbars?

My Isbars should arrive tomorrow

. I will post pics of them when I get a chance

I thought about getting some, but it's so hard to get Isbars that are purebred. It's ridiculous, I AM in Sweden and have a hard time finding good hatching eggs
hmm.png

Unfortunately it seems that many breeders in my area were crossbreeding with Araucanas to make the egg color "better", but not thinking about how this messes with comb and type of the birds

Have fun with your Isbars and please post pics as they grow up!

that's too bad they are doing that
sad.png
. It doesn't help anyone

omg, what I would do to get my hands on some swedish black hens....If I could import anything it would be those....do you have any? that where your login came from? I tried contacting the breed club and have list of names....maybe next year

Oh it's totally fine that people mix the Isbars for themselves, project birds are fun. It's just kind of unfortunate that many still say they have Isbars and don't label them as Isbar/Araucana/whatever mixes when selling eggs or birds. *sigh* Maybe next year I'll find some

Certified Swedish black hens are even harder to come by. I don't have true Swedish black hens, even though some of my birds closely resemble them. But my flock is just an old barnyard variety from my area, which has Swedish black hen ancestors mixed in with "who knows what other landrace". Genetics soup pretty much lol.

Sure

there's a gene bank certificate for many types of Swedish landrace chickens and the heritage club is very careful about who is registered in their genebank.

Just to not totally highjack the Isbar thread

the Isbars are not landrace type chickens. They are a modern production breed which was designed by Martin Silverudd, who also made the Fifty Five Flowerys (autosexing breed). The Isbars were created around the 70s (I think) to be a single combed green egg laying production breed. From what I read RIR, New Hampshire and Cream Crested Legbars were used to create them. Depending on the source some also say that there's Leghorn in them. Unfortunately Mr. Silverudd died before finishing this breed and there's little documentation about the creation of the Isbars, so nobody knows what he had in mind as a finished bird and there's no actual standard for them.
They come in blue/black/splash but the preferred variety to breed/keep are the blue ones, hence they are usually called "Blue Isbars". Many of them also show silver or gold in the neck and saddle areas.

oh, the black hens can hi-jack the thread anytime

yes, I contacted the directors of the gene bank, I love how they keep track of things

ok, so they are here, but are temporarily in an old playhouse on my deck. They are a bit shy so I can try to get a pic but it might just be a pile of feathers
lol.png

eta- one of the cockerals has the gold bleed through, not sure if the other will have it....all 4 are blue(not sure if I mentioned that I talked dh into a second pair

so I got one pic of one of the cockerals, the pic in the playhouse wouldn't come out, this pic was right before he decided to leave and make me catch him
roll.png
it is kind of blurry and I will add better pics later , I think his feathers are a bit roughed up from the travel...
