Due to a problem I had with some purchased eggs (long, uninteresting story), I now find myself in the position of having too many eggs to fit in my incubator! Yayyyy!

Since 24 of the eggs were shipped, I know that probably half will not make it to hatching...so I wanted to add as many as I could to ensure a large hatch, but was limited on space.

A few others have posted their creative ideas, so I thought I'd add my idea:

Essentially, what I did was take the bottom tray of an egg carton and cut out the bottoms of each of the "cells." It holds the eggs in place as the unit rocks back and forth.

I had to leave that one (of the six) empty as the lid has a piece that sticks out there and would have cracked an egg.

I have a longgggg way to go on this hatch. *sigh* The waiting is the hardest part!

Girl, cloth tape (like for boo boos) works well too.....Just turn the tape inside out, making a circle. Stick one side of the tape to the egg and the other side to the incubator. Works for me. You can also take out the dividers, tilt the incubator to the side, and load eggs that way. You'll get more in there.

Most I stuffed in mine was 36. It was a squeeze! And some of those were turkey eggs, which are bigger than chicken eggs. I was expecting duds because the most office really abuses egg shipments no matter how well they are packed. It is like they single out on the boxes marked "fragile" and play ball with them. At hatch time I had about 20 eggs, which were reasonable.

Edit: I don't use the dividers, btw.

Great ideas!!!! And I can definitely see not using the dividers - and that never occured to me!

I love this place!

Carolina - I'm not sure I know of the tape that you describe...can you post a link or picture to some?

You're no amateur! Your setup looks really good, each egg is nice and stable. And is that squishy water toy in there as a heat sink?

Necessity caused my brinsea stuffing experience. I was sent so many extras and didn't want them to go to waste!

The water toy (I think it's called a "water wiggler") is what I put my thermometers in. I have the Brinsea, Spot-on thermometer which gives a real-time reading of the temp...so it can fluctuate from second to second just from the breeze the fan causes. By putting it inside the water thing-y, the fluctuations are moderated, and you get an average of the ambient temp inside the thermometer. It works well and keeps me from going nuts (which is not a long trip for me!).

I got well over 100 quail eggs in my Octagon 20 by double stacking them and putting the whole tray into a mesh bag that lemons came in and putting 4 big rubber bands across it. Worked out well. I only took them out a couple of times to do the "sniff test" and remove a few rotten eggs (candling doesn't work, too dark of shells with the big brown spots).
