New Jersey

Thought I'd throw NJ into the mix!
I'm in central NJ, former guardian to a wonderful roo and hen. Sadly, she died in November and he was so depressed. He had taken such exemplary care of her - she was treated like a princess. The coop was on property not mine and the owners didn't want more chickens so I searched and searched for a good home and adopted him out in November. Things were wonderful until recently, when the young hens there began attacking him badly. He is so gentle and loving to hens that he doesn't fight back. I have been asked to take him back (with a hen along for to keep him company) and am scrambling to figure out the building of a safe outdoor run on my property as I am no longer able to be home at dusk like I managed to do before. These people are also no longer comfortable feeding him the special things a roo needs to stay healthy (I had him on a combo of wild game bird food, sunflower seeds, scratch, fruits, veggies, and Avia Charge 2000 in water. He refuses layer food).. Ideally I need a wonderful home for him with someone who is like many of us on BYC who will pull out all the stops to provide good care. A place with no other roos and no crazed attacking hens. Refined gentle adult hens. He needs an understanding soul who can help him adjust and who wouldn't mind my helping at first (he's been through so much in such a short time). It is extremely difficult for me to have chickens at this time but it looks as though I have to get him out of there promptly.
Also Jersey Girl! Morris county!

Jersey Girl from Bayville saying hi! I have a small flock of Ayam Cemanis, Silkies, Seramas, a Mille Fleur D'Uccle and a Brahma bantam. Sadly, my rooster recently died. All my girls are old and not laying. I'm getting some babies in a couple months from MPC, can't wait!!!

I also have 3 beloved old doggies, a stinky parrot lol, and a few freshwater tanks. It's a zoo up in here but I love it!

Welcome to BYC (well belatedly anyway). I am in your area. Small flock of 7 incredibly spoiled ladies.
It's nice to meet you! I was actually on here a long time ago, 6 or 7 years ago...but life got in the way. This is a great area to have chickens, half the people where I live have them, there are lots of roosters, and nobody cares. It's great!

Does anyone here have any contact info for Ryan's Roost in Galloway, or would be able to get in touch with her to give her my contact info? It seems she is only a Facebook DM contact, and I am not on FB (I even tried to creat a FB page just so I could contact her, but they suspended my account bc I won't give them my real name. I hate FB).

I really want to get some of her chicks! Thanks~

Sorry. Never heard of it.

Hi all! Local ordinances changed and roosters are no longer permitted. I have filled my freezer with as many as I can but still have six left in need of a new home. The oldest (2 years) is a purebred Welsummer and the other five (6-9 months) are his backyard kids with a variety of hens (Buff Orpingtons, Ameraucana, Barred Rocks). Free to a good home or freezer. Located in Central New Jersey (08628).

Hey all! Currently in South Jersey, I have a flock of Australorps (2), Speckled Sussex (2), Plymouth Barred Rocks (2), and Black Laced Red Wyandottes (3)-all 3yrs old. We are moving to the midwest, and it’s just not feasible for me to take my girls. 😞 Looking to rehome them, they are still decent layers and all dual purpose breeds. Our original plan was to send them all to freezer camp but we likely won’t get through them all before we move. I don’t want them wasted.
