Are these hens? I'm asking because I received a GLW as a "surprise chick" from McMurray back in August. It had a thick comb so I assumed it was a roo. However, my chicks are now 18 weeks old and I'm not completely sure he/she isn't a hen. I can grab a picture tomorrow (it's late right now and they are in the coop for the night). I feel like my "surprise chick" looks more like the 1st picture.
 
They are both pullets. Never mind the combs, look at the feathers -- they don't have cockerel feathering.

Hi Kathleen, how early can you tell with the feathers? I have 6 week olds and ppl right away told me cockerels, but I want to know why they think that…
