These are my first chickens, gifts from a daughter for Christmas. Once they started laying, it's rare to have a day without one egg from each hen. They come when I call them, stay close to the...

Best incubator?
Quite honestly it doesn't matter what incubator you have you will have failed hatchings sometimes, it just happens. I have heard people with the large cabinet incubators saying that they have had problems this year with their hatchings and those are supposed to be the best of the best incubators. I use a Little Giant and am on my second hatch this year with shipped eggs just waiting for the babies to come out of lock down so far I haven't had any problems that can't be fixed easily. I think it's just a matter of learning your incubator and how it works that helps with the good hatches.

Ya I think the killer is not having a fan and opening the lid to turn the eggs have you guys ever herd of a marsh turn x tx6
Any more ideas
You can get a good incubator from Brinsea
Go to their site and check
also you can get a 10% discount cupon form brinsea facebook
can you describe what problems you had?
I have a genessis 1588 and I love it , I use this one for incubation and I use 1602N (with a computer fan added )as hatcher both works fine.
I also have used the Brinsea and I like it too
Brinsea is more expensive and can hold less eggs but easy to clean
Genessis 1588 holds more eggs but is made out styrofoam and needs more work to clean
both are good incubators
there are many facts to a good or a bad hatch
My temps went up and down some and I added eggs later from the first set so I drowned half of them I don't want to be devastated with 1 chick so i haven't tried I don't know how to hook up my fan so I was going to sell it and get a turn x enless I can find money or info to get a fan

I have not heard of that I use a LG turner and I have been told that it's interchangeable with hovabator and LG. Let us know what you are having for problems we might be able to help you out.
Also I highly recommend reading and following the guide lines in ChooksChick's incubation cheat sheet it is really well written and explains everything which makes it a lot easier to incubate
Here it is http://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=14596-incubation-cheat-sheet&PHPSESSID=6a9ef75252d048761e502795e39964f4&PHPSESSID=24edf233c822d53adf9ec69d785d8fb7

Hovas are good Incubators , if you still have it , give it a try but this time add a fan and go for dry incubation
try it with local cheap fertile eggs you can problably get them at your feed store or craiglist
get a good digital thermometer hydrometer combo
make sure your hydrometer is tested using the salt method calibration technique
you should be fine
dont give up
we all messed things at one point , thats how e learn sometimes
I will send you some good information on dry incubation

That will sure work
But u u dont have to spend money if u dont want to
any computer fan will work
just get the bolts nuts plastic spaciers and a cell phone power cord same voltage as the fan and thats it .should cost you les than 5 dls and you dont have to wait for shipping
only issue is that you will have to plug 2 power cords one for the bator and one for the fan
