(the boys don't seem to care much about that)

As far as I know, ducks only lay in the springtime. Still, I only have a Mallard and I am not very experienced with ducks.

Patience! My girls hatched in April last year, we got them in June and they laid their first eggs in March of this year! 11 months old! Give it time, they'll start, it may just take longer than expected.

Our ducks lay year round, but I provide additional light support so they do. Most of the mallard-derived breeds, in my experience, don't begin laying until at least 6 months.

I have heavy breed ducks. They are very good layers laying eggs year round. They need to be 6 months old before they lay. Other breeds may start sooner. 5 month seems to be the average. Just give it time.

Oh your nesting box is useless. They only use it, if they want to hatch babies, or even make their own little hidden nest somewhere. Otherwise they ditch them wherever. The best is to have a duck house where they sleep inside at night (locked up) and have a nesting box inside of it, then all you have to do is collect in the morning. They lay before 9am anyway. Mine are usually done by 7.30.
