Two of my hens just layed there second egg today and they wernt in the boxes! I have eggs in the nesting boxes and Im using pine shavings. Is the bedding wrong or what?

Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken.

We found our first 3 eggs on the ground by the coop door. We use hay and they came from shavings. We waited it out since they were already layers when we got them to our coop and they finally laid in the boxes. Also, our EE's seem to wanna lay on the floor under the food dish, I hope this stops soon!

If they are new to laying eggs, they probably just don't know that they are supposed to lay in the boxes. Just give them some time and they will learn. It only takes 1 to do it and the other will follow.

Not sure what else to do here, but...i have to crawl in on my hands and knees to get these eggs, we have roll out nest boxes...guess they don't like them....oh I hope they catch on soon!!!

We use pine shavings and golf balls and they have been laying in the boxes from day one.

Are the boxes in a dark area of the coop?  They are not too happy with bright sunny places.  Try covering the boxes with a curtain or a shelf above, or move them to a darker place in the coop.
