I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was EYP possibly combined with being egg bound. She had egg problems from the start, and I just hoped she would grow out of them, but no. She was such a love, I would have been happy if she never laid an egg.

I am not sure if I am going to do deep litter or not. But I get mine most times at TSC for 5.96 for 8 Cubic feet. and my coop is jsut starting out just like I bought my feed in 50 pound bags I buy one at a time now but later I will be getting 2-3 bags at a time. To lower my trips to the store seeing as almost all feed stores are at least 30 minutes from me.

If you are just building your coop you will want to decide on the deep litter thing first and take that into consideration. You'll need to build in those allowances.

I am less than 4 minutes from Animal House so no biggie for me to run there, it is cheaper per cubic ft and local family owned so I try to give them my business.

Though they keep changing their prices for feed and not in a good way.  My 4 hens who free range for about 1 hour a day go through a 50lb bag in about 2 to 3 months.  They also get fresh veggies and occassionally bread from a friend who runs a cafeteria.

I tend to buy feed at TSC though since it is cheaper and I can use a coupon.  I go about every 2 months and grab a bag, not a big deal even though it is 25 min away.  I would be afraid of it going bad sitting in my garage in between.

I just wish I could afford to do organic feed.

I do have 6 8 week old chicks, so when they are no longer on chic feed I am sure I will pick up 2 bags of feed at a time or having the hubs pick it up when he goes buy there during the week.  Gas is too expensive to waste it.

Anybody have info on a coop tour sponsored by the Westport Historical Society? A friend of mine saw a sign but there was to much info to read as traffic conditions were not safe to take your eyes off.

I went to Agway and purchased a bag of Pine River Bedding 9.75 Cu.ft.  Has anyone used this brand? Is it ok?

I want to know before I open it, what those that have used it experienced. It is large flake, tiny flake?

I will be using it for 12 day old chicks.

Thanks,

Lisa
