Knock on wood, but I haven't lost a bird to any wild predators yet. My mistake was not making an indoor pen secure enough to keep my two puppies from lifting the cover off. barnie.gif

I have a 4+ month Black Copper Marans roo that I'm trying to find a good home for myself. With more in the incubator, I'm sure.

What kind is yours?

Hi chickenrun1020! I've only been at this for a little while myself. My husband says I've gone out of my mind with these things.tongue.png I'm not supposed to have roos but I can't just kill them. I'd like to find good homes where they are allowed.

This is the one issue keeping me from incubating. I'd love to have a Roo Sanctuary but I don't think the neighbors would take kindly to it. Just don't have it in me to eat them either. Wish there were a magical way to guarantee sex in an egg.

My friends, who have had chickens for 2-3 years, free ranged them, with only a rare one gone missing due to predators.   We got 4 of their older ones for a "trial run", as they needed space for new arrivals.  So I built a small coop, and free ranged them.  One of the main reasons I wanted them around is to eat the overabundance of bugs.

They had a lot of attacks recently, and have removed 2 foxes and a raccoon.  I removed the fox we had.  Haven't seen anything else threatening.

I'll be making a run for when we aren't around, etc.   Maybe one of the moveable fence things too.
