Is that where the Mitlitskis have their farm? DS went to school with their daughter. Small world!

yes mitlitsky eggs are in lebanon, on card st. near the windham line. although i don' think they have any birds there anymore. most of the store eggs are from new england eggs and koffkoff farms. ne eggs are in lebanon on mack rd, and most of the koffkoff coops are in bozrah. like most store eggs the eggs come from the same farms and are packaged to each "producers" boxes. moodusnewchick they don't let you have chickens in moodus? i always thought that was a pretty farm friendly town?

I don't think she's in Moodus anymore....
I have seent the Mitlitskys in a while. I know they were looking to expand not long ago but we were rarely able to talk chickens since we have such different view points!

Killingly,
My name is Cassandra.
I'm looking for a pair of Cochin pullets, or Hens as long as they are under 2 and fully feathered they will be PERFECT. I just don't have a place to keep them inside but once mine they will be allowed to live their lives to the absolute fullest as long as nature allows it. I am currently in the process of building a BRAND NEW coop in the yard for them. I really want them for companions and feathered friends for my daughter (28months now) and myself, not for show birds or eggs although if they go broody they will be loaned to my uncle as surrogates.

Happy mother of 1 dog, 3 bantam CochinxSilkie hens, and a 4yr old little girl.

Hi there!

I'm in central CT and I'm going to be getting some chickens in the spring! Can't wait!!!!!

Been having a REAL hard time finding where I can get some chicks in the state. Not sure if I should order by mail or not. I really only want 3 or 4 babies, I know it's hard to find places that will ship only a few chicks. Maybe I could share an order with someone? Or maybe you all know of somewhere good in the state or surrounding states that sell sexed baby chicks?

Cant WAIT to get started! celebrate

Love my chickens! 1 Black Orp, 1 BO, 2 Silkies, 2 Silkie/Wyandotte mixes and a Buff/Blue Orp chickie

Hello,
welcome-byc

Just so you know MPC is located in Norwalk, CT and they only ship. They do sell as few as 4-5 chicks at a time. They also sex them too. I have a couple of Silkie hens that decided to go broody on me this past Sunday so, I am guessing I will have some little bugger in a few weeks. Unfortunately I don't know how to sex them sad

Good Luck!!

Hey Everyone!  Just wanted to check in and say hello!  I started with 12 Silkies in July and recently got a couple Silkie hens that just began laying (well, one of them is...not sure yet which one).  I am shocked at how much I enjoy having these Silkies around.  smile  They are so adorable!!  I will probably have a few Silkie roosters to give away in a couple months...once I confirm that they are actually roosters, so if anyone is interested, send me a message!!  smile

MyPetChicken is a broker, so to speak, of baby chicks. They do NOT ship them from Norwalk, CT. They refer the order to the hatcheries that work for them who then ship your order to you. I've had great luck with MPC and their customer service is TOP NOTCH when a problem needs addressing.

You can go to your local feed store and ask. Some will have chicks around Easter, or you can go to swap meets or Check the Bargain news. That would be the best way to get 2 or 3. If you order from a hatchery and they say they can ship Special Small orders be careful cause usually they will kill you on shipping. If you do the math you end up paying the same as if you bought the normal minimum. I would rather have more chicks than I need than to waste money on shipping.

Congrats on your hens! I really wanted to get a Silkie but I wasn't sure about them being small and having them outside in the winter. I don't plan on heating the coop, just insulating it well. Do a lot of CT owners have Silkies? I heard they are so sweet and make great pets, I'd love to get one! If they do well with our winters, I just might! big_smile

My Coop isn't heating, just insulated well.  My Silkies sleep in a big pile...they do not roost.  I think this helps them keep warm because they are REALLY warm to the touch in the morning. smile  I haven't gone through a winter with them yet, so we'll see how it goes.  I think they are going to be just fine though.  They are very fluffy!  I do plan on putting a tarp over our run area to help keep the snow out for them.
