Leghorns are great egg laying chickens. They are friendly to other Leghorns and can easily fly. The only problems is that they are bad in the pecking order and they can make a mess of the yard....

Congrats on your hens! I really wanted to get a Silkie but I wasn't sure about them being small and having them outside in the winter. I don't plan on heating the coop, just insulating it well. Do a lot of CT owners have Silkies? I heard they are so sweet and make great pets, I'd love to get one! If they do well with our winters, I just might!
I have one Silkie among my flock of 18 birds and she does beautifully in our CT winter weather. She roosts with the rest of the birds and has been a wonderful broody. She did not, however, lay an egg until she was 13 months old (after having raised two chicks).

Hi there!
I'm in central CT and I'm going to be getting some chickens in the spring! Can't wait!!!!!
Been having a REAL hard time finding where I can get some chicks in the state. Not sure if I should order by mail or not. I really only want 3 or 4 babies, I know it's hard to find places that will ship only a few chicks. Maybe I could share an order with someone? Or maybe you all know of somewhere good in the state or surrounding states that sell sexed baby chicks?
Cant WAIT to get started!
Try Mypetchicken.com They ship large breed birds in as few as 3, bantams as few as 5.
I got 4 there in the spring. They are hatchery type, not show or "breed" quality, but if you're only looking for pets...
Also, the sex them for you
Good Luck!
Me in a nutshell? I ride horses, like to run, rescue dogs and live with a menagerie including dogs (4 permanent residents and occasionally additional "fosters"), cats, horses (2 Arabs & a QH), Indian runner ducks (they're my husband's), a small hobby flock of LF and bantam chickens from both hatchery and breeder stock, and a bunny. Oh, and I also like to garden.

I have one Silkie in a flock of 18 as well. Mine is a rooster though. He roosts with his girls and does fine. Here in Eastern CT many of our Agways and TSCs have chicks in the spring with a minimum sale of 6. If you don't mind a drive Salem Feed and Grain always has chicks in the spring.

Hi everyone. Does anyone know of anyone or any events coming up where I might pick up a couple of bantam Cochins? i would really like to add to our flock before winter to keep it cozy in the coop. I've been looking for a few weeks, but nothing yet. Thanks.

New Chick You might want to try Stew`s. I know he had 2 at the Danbury store. I don`t think they keep thier animals through the winter. It could not hurt ask.

Duh.
I thought that's what you meant. I called and the person on the phone didn't know, I guess I need to pop up there.
