Great idea! Except I now probably only have three hens. I'm not going to have a lot of eggs. :) I wonder if I could mow his lawn...

Three hens should be enough to pass a dozen along here and there...

They only "free range" when I'm out there with 'em. I let the little ones into a grassy area outside my boyfriend's garden fence, and the "big girls" around the corner anywhere else. Otherwise, the peeps have a smaller box as a run, outside of the the older ones run, so they can safely interact through the hardware cloth/chicken wire. At night, I let the peeps into a (former) dog crate in the coop, so the big girls don't bother them.
