Maryland Poultry Swap & Farmer's Market October 1st 9-3 SHARPSBURG

Erin - I asked about the banner and Rob said her and Terri were in the process of re-vamping the rules as there had been some previous issues. I have not heard back about it. He was also donating some bumper stickers but I have not heard back about that. I will bring the nametags for those who have requested them with me, and will bring spares and a marker for anyone at the event who may want one. I need to go through this post and write down names...........I think I may have missed a few!

Forgot to add, I should be able to have somemore items for the door prizes. I will bring them early but if I do end up catching an assignemnet I will bring them over before the event like last time.

This comment reminds me of a quote I saw once

"The early bird get's the worm, everyone else just gets a bug in the end......."
The Wise Old Owl

Brody's - Are you going to be selling any silkies at the event? As far as the early bird - even though I am a good distance away, I am getting up EARLY in hopes of being an early bird!! I have a horrible sense of direction though, so hope I don't get lost.....haha! Mapquest, don't fail me now.....................hope to see you all there!! Susan

Sorry Susan, will be in Lucasville at the Show for this one.

if the early bird gets the worm then state in the flyers that "even though it starts at 9 am people here before the sun comes up can start buying.". all i am saying is"do as you say". i am a collector of many things and have a lot of different animals. i have run trade shows in the past to include breweriana, restaurant ware, and i attend reptile shows, railroad collectibles, gun shows and general swap meets. and at some we have a rule that if you want to enter early you pay an "early entrance fee" usually $10-$20. this gets you in an hour earlier than walk-ins.

it doesn't make a good impression on people new to your hobby when it is allowed to run the way it was. it didn't make a good impression on me.

Sorry if this seems rude, but if you don't like how things are run, and don't plan to enjoy yourself for what it is " a poultry swap" just that, nothing else, nothing promised.
Than DON"T GO! Gees talk about beating a dead chicken into the ground.

Sorry Erin, but I loved the swap, love what you guys are doing for those who want to get involved, and appreciate all your hard work. Please don't let one bad apple ruin it all for the bunch. If I wasn't on the show schedule I would be there with you all again this time. Hoping you all have great weather, no matter what black clouds try to form over your day!

I totally agree with this, especially the second part. Thank you Erin.

We left before daylight for the 2 hour drive so that we could be there early, get set up and let the little ones settle down before the sales started.
Once buyers started it didn't stop. Was I supposed to say "We need to wait for everyone to be here before you can buy anything"? I could only imagine the madhouse that would be. I barely had time to talk and answer questions as it was.

Unfortuantly, I don't think that I will be making this swap, although I really, really want to. I had a blast last time.
I hope that everyone who goes will take it for just what it is....a poultry swap and a good time.

Anne

There certainly is a lot of loyalty to Erin, and probally well deserved. The event sounds really interesting. I was perplexed by the reaction to angrygary. I found his information really helpful for planning purposes as our free time is severly limited. I never expect any forum to be full of people in constant agreement (that would be boring), but was dismayed by the reference to him as a" bad apple"..not such an encouraging welcome for newbies with opinions. I am looking forward to the show and we have, based on his comments, adjusted our schedules to be able to attend.
Thnaks for the advice and info.

You will always have people who break the rules, let's face it. If someone really wants a "insert chicken name here" and gets there early, offers the seller extra cash/trades/whatever, chances are they're going to take it. Is it fair? No. It's just the way it is, though. We can hope that there is still plenty to go around all day, and hope that people respect the rules, but that doesn't always happen. Unless you have a "vendors only" sign and check IDs on the way in, I don't know how you can stop people from being shady.

Thankfully, there will not be a massive line at my booth, so just mosey on over after you buy your poultry. I even have soap made wish fresh farm eggs from my Buckeyes! After all, it is a poultry event!

I have had the pleasure to meat Gary and talked to him about it.
Erin has done a lot for poultry swaps here in wv and in md.
So has a few others and all of us have had our hand into it and we pass ideas around and see what works.
There is nothing wrong with trying to be fair to everyone. Yes it's best to het there early. Smarter yet to buy ahead and have the birds held for your pick up. Everyone else is luck of the draw.
As most like to walk around and see what there before they buy.
I heard and had a lot last time I should have brought it when I saw it.
If you know what you want buy it. If you walk down and find one better buy it and sell te one you just got.
That way you get what you want. Best thing I can tell anyone is to just have fun and enjoy your self and buy what you want and enjoy it.

Ok now let's move on to better things please.
For anyone looking for door prize items sears has some really cute rooster gravy bowls and butter dishes, salt and pepper shakers in white. Low prices too.

Got my testing done tonight and got my breeders banded.
Should have my papers in the mail in time for the swap.
I hope it stays sunny for the swap to Erin
