So I am torn between two breeders in My state. One in a farther away state with 10$ Bev Davis Lines, and one in about 30 minutes away with 5$ Wade Jeane Lines. I want the good, nice, true, purebred Black Copper Marans. The ones bred true. Tell me, which is better? I am freaking out over it, I would like to know. I urgently want to get these birds, but I also want to save money and gas, but I want quality. Is there a big difference betwen Bev Davis and Wade Jeane? Which is better? What is the DIFFERENCE?
TY,
Savannah

Try them both.

Bev Davis birds are almost always bigger, Wade Jeanes are usually smaller. Bev Davis birds usually lay bigger eggs too, and have real nice color, but Wade Jeanes are usually glossier or rounder, which is a plus. Bev Davis birds sometimes have excess white, or squirrel tails, or weird looking tails, but Wade Jeanes often have too dark of mahogany, too little mahogany, or too much leg feathering. Plus it depends on who bred those supposed lines. Once they leave the true original breeder, they're technically not the breeder's creation, so, they may vary quite a bit and even stray from the known "standard" of the original breeder's lines. (by standard I mean the average or norm within the strain)

ditto on the breeder part. I have seen first hand how a person can kill alot of hard work in a very good line. You'll have to evaluate the birds yourself, but like illia said, get a bit of both, you can always sell off any extras

Problem is you are not going to be buying these birds directly from these breeders so you will be getting someone elses line like iilia said. You can find nice birds at that price range but you should do your research first so you now what to look for when buying. Good to see the parent stock also. Good luck on your hunt. I hope you find what you are looking for!

So I think I want to go all of the way to Amherst to get the Bev Davis lineage. They look like they don't have as much leg feathering. I may get a rooster from the Wade Jeanne lines, and then some hens from the Amherst breeder-Oh geez, I don't know how to sex them!

I went to her website ( Bev) but could not find a price list and requirements for purchase. How do I find the correct site.
Thanks

She doesn't sell birds anymore. I got extremely luck and got birds from a friend of Hers that got them directly from her.
