how do ducks show they love you?

So cute.

My white Campbells solly and Campbell are cuddly depending if they are in the mood. They come up to me and nibble my clothes, knees. Hair. Anything they can get to.solly gives duck hugs where he wraps his neck over your shoulder and will come and sit on my lap which is good as he wasn't handled at all before we got him at 5 months old. Campbell we raised from a week old and she will sleep on my lap, let me give her lots and lots of kisses, ready my nose on her beak and she loves her beak and head strokes. She's very fussy though and only likes me holding her. Whereas solly is happy to be held by anyone

I am so enamored with this group!! I am a fairly new flock momma(I have 2 chickens and 3 ducks) my oldest duck is a Pekin lovingly named duck duck. She is close to 10 months old and has recently begun"nibbling" on me. I have never once thought this to be a negative action. Until yesterday that is. She hurt me! Whilst affectionately"nibbling" it seemed like she was nursing! Then came the ouch! This evening I was outside watching for the meteor shower and she started on anything she could come in contact with. Is she showing signs of aggressive behavior now or just love? Mind you, she is and always will be my baby. Even though we have 2 new ducks( 6 months old and not people friendly except twords me) help! I am worrying I may have done something wrong and she is upset.

I am a first time duck Mom also. I was starting to feel disappointed that my babies didn't seem to want affection from me but with some research and lots of work, we are finding a middle ground. I find it's much easier to catch them when I'm sitting rather than chase them. They come up for treats and I gently scoop them up and continue the treats. Now they relax right away and enjoy their chests rubbed and seem to like their bills stroked as well. They are very chatty with me also.

This afternoon, I let them out the backyard while I cleaned their coop out. They had made their way into the pool and were having a lot of fun splashing around. When I left them for a minute to take a load of old straw to the bin, I heard the frantic flapping of webbed feet from behind me. I looked behind me to find they had both abandoned the pool and had come running after me lol. Very cute :)

That's adorable!

It all started for me this past May after finding an orphaned duck. When she was about 5 or 6 weeks old we got 2 Silver Appleyard minis of about the same age to keep her company and I built an outdoor coop from scratch. The orphaned duck definitely imprinted on me and loves to cuddle and will with most of my family (see the 1st pic of my son with her in bed). The 2 minis are getting comfortable enough with us now that we can pick them up, pet them, and cuddle too. They are a nice bunch.

The only time my Ducks willingly got in my lap was when they were younger and we were outside in the evening. It was the first time they were outside when the sun started to set and it got dark- they started crying and running around and when I got down to their level to try and calm them both girls jumped in my lap and we sat there together for probably an hour before my husband came looking for us! (I didn't have my phone on me and didn't want to move the sweet babies). Now they will sit in our laps if we pick them up, but they get pretty squirmy after awhile. They always seem to want to climb up onto my chest/shoulders too!

They show affection with nibbles, they like to forage in my husbands hair and beard, and they would do the same to my hair but I don't let them. They like to stick their beaks in clothe openings, like shirt sleeves and under dresses .

And every time I come see them after it's been awhile they will chatter and run up to stand in front of me! So sweet!!! I love our babies.

That's funny! Mine will do that too - forage in our hair, never mind stick their bills in our shirts and such - they'll stick their heads and necks in our shirts and try to climb in...lol. They are cute and we love our babies too. Never knew ducks could be such awesome pets.

Toowoombapekins, I think they find little bugs in the straw. I think they also enjoy that is is dry and snuggly after they leave the other straw all wet and poopy.
I know this is an old post but I’m gonna bump it up and hope you’re still on here to answer my question. We used pelletized bedding, which turns to saw dust; it’s great with handling the odors in their houses and fairly easy to clean. My husband has been wanting to try the straw/hay bedding…my only concern is it getting moldy from being damp, we live in Louisiana, and have outrageous humidity. Do you find that using straw bedding better?
