Dozy hubby :/

OK, he decided to cut the hedges last night, very commendable. So, he plugged extension lead in where my incubator is plugged in. He unplugged heater, not turner, didn't tell me and I just realised. Say 24 hours ago. They were sat Saturday. Any point in carrying on or shall I chuck them all out? I know day 3 is eye development time, so if anyone out there is really good at development times, please let me know if candling at day 7 and looking at eye development is useful or if my embryos are just about dead.

I wouldn't mind, but I only set them as I have people begging for day olds.

My daughter, everything to me, but all I have to do for her is be.

I'd keep going and candle them in a few days. You never know!

Friesians, Sebrights, Barnevelders, Araucanas, Cream Legbars, Dutch Bantams, Vorwerks, an Appenzeller Spitzhauben, a Sabelpoot and a few crosses .

I say go with them.  You should know something by day 10 for sure. May have lowered the hatch rate maybe not. They may just be a day or two behind. Broody hens aren't always perfect either. Things happen IMO I'd keep them and see what happens.

I am mainly worried that they will hatch and have major eye problems. I can't sell them then and won't keep them either. I don't wat to cull nearly 30 chicks.

Well look at it this way if you throw out 30 eggs and say 24 of them would have been okay your at a loss either way. It's up to you as it's your business. Maybe get another incubator and start another group just in case if you have that option.

Eggs are a little forgiving. They have to be otherwise chickens would all be endangered smile

I would definately keep going! those eggs can hold there own temp for a bit, and then there are so many stories of people who have had hatches (good hatches even) with power outages! Definately keep going!

Well I candled last night and a few are still alive, I guess they are the freshest eggs. I don't mark them with laid date (I suppose I really should) they go in the egg tray in order then put in the incubator where ever they fit. So, we'll see again Saturday, then I will chuck out all clears. I think he owes me dinner.
