Hi

I just got home half hour ago and I have found one of my hens l sitting in water dish and looked like dead. When I walked up to her she opened her eyes. But she won't walk, she keeps her eyes closed and she breath slow. She looks sick, I don't know what to do. No vet is available at this hour to look et her.
What shall I do myself?
Please help I want to save her.
I put her in box wrapped her in towel and squirted some water in her mouth...

thank you

I'd give her some sugar water to help get her energy up and then get some Sav-A-Chik tomorrow maybe. I never knew chickens were so darn fragile and got so many ailments. Hope your chickie gets better.

I don't know what to recommend, more then what you are doing but I think if we knew how old she is would help. Make sure you don't squirt too much water in her mouth, just a drop or two until she responds to it. Pulling for her...

Make sure she isn't over heated from today. I don't know what the temp was today where you are. I am not really sure of anything to tell you. I am pretty new to all of this myself and don't want to give you the wrong advice. Hopefully someone will come along and tell you everything else you could do. Good luck and I will say a prayer for your little lady.

Any other clues? Does she seem to have lost weight? Runny poop? Will she eat or drink if you put anything in front of her? Parasites are pretty bad right now with all the heat. Could be worms or coccidia. Could be the heat.

Give us the following information. The more you tell us, the better we will be able to help you.

1) What type of bird , age and weight.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
13) Where do you live? What is the weather like there?

Quote:
1-She is Brahma about 2 years old maybe younger, heavy??? less than 7lb.
2-She is just sitting with her head bowed and eyes closed, breathing kind of slow about 10-11 breaths per 15 secs...
3-Just got home after all day out and found her sitting down not moving in water dish.
4-no
5-no
6-no sure at all, we had another hen who died two weeks ago of unknow causes. found her sitting position. looked like sleeping.
7-regular chiken feed lettuce water
8-not sure which one is hers.
9-I put her in box wrapped in towel and squirting water into her mouth, she seems to be drinking I gave about 4 of 5ml quirts.
10-whatever will keep her alive. No vet can look at her now. It's too late. Not sure if she will last through the night.
12-Regular wooden simple chicken house with wood chips. They have quit a big dirt run. She could have swallowed something. Sometimes our neighbors will throw cigarettes buds over the fence and little garbage.
13-Bay Area, Ca, it was hot today but it was hotter before. They have water all the time. and shade inside the house....

I will post picture in a minute....

She is breathing little heavy I think... even opening her mouth while breathing...
