Hi.
I have to 10 week old muscovies. 1 has a fanned out tail, and the has a pointed tail. Are their tails a way to sex them? I tried to post pics, but I still am having trouble with it. Thanks.

As far as I know the tail isn't a way to sex them. The best way is to compare the general body size, foot size, leg thickness. The boys will be bigger, have thicker legs and bigger feet. At 10 weeks you should be able to see a difference. Unlike you're like me and you have 2 boys.

I have Muscovy that are about 4-5 months old and I really can't tell.
This is my first year with Muscovy so I am learning but I do know that my old Muscovy drake head bobs with the younger ones and I think maybe that means those are girls.
And when my older Muscovy girl hatched babies and they got out of the coop without momma that those younger ones flew in and were very interested and nice to the baby Muscovy.
I am thinking girls for those 4 because feet, tail and actions have not helped me decide.

I have another one that is bigger and has clipped wings so it can't get out of the grow up pen and I am wondering if that one is a drake.

My 10 week old Muscovy duckling is already bigger than my adult hens so thats one way i can tell, plus the boys do have longer tails. Heres a pic at 10 weeks maybe face will help since he started getting his carnicles at about 7 weeks

Tell that to my Cocoa that has a fanned tail. I thought she was a boy for a long time until she quit growing ( she was younger than the rest so had nothing to compare size to)

I really think that you have to look at several things and not just rely on tails as an indicator.

By about 8-9wks i was able to tell ours.. the males are noticeable bigger overall, the legs thicker, feet larger.. plus the females 'honk' LOL the males just hiss...my females fly like you wouldn't believe, my males only over.. there HUGE i swear my biggest one is starting to rival the turkey at thanksgiving(no he isn't destined for that) the hens have a rather feminine look to them sounds dumb but seriously it's there.

My white ones are.. 3.5mths... I know some who are real experienced can tell sooner.. storey's guide to ducks says a hen is like over 60% smaller at 3wks than the drakes.. the farmer i got our newest chocolate pair picked out the hens for us..

Here is a pic i have of my biggest drake and one of my hens side by side.. note differences...hen on left.. drake on right.. they were 9wks ..

Thanks everyone. My 2 don't have carnicles yet, and they are identical except for their tails. Since they are my only muscovies, I have a hard time comparing them to others.

i have never heard of sexing muscovy from tails. they fan them out when they are feeling threatened or excited dont they? mine do anyway.
