Breda Fowl thread

Can some one give mature weights on this breed? I think they are so cool but went on as thought they were a larger breed than I'm looking for. Thanks.

This was a bit funny to me 'cause we found them a bit smaller than we wanted. We won the splash imported roo a few weeks back. I assume he is a mature bird. Will try to get a weight this weekend and get back to you.

Don't really know if he is fully grown or not but the Imported Splash Rooster we won on the Rare Bird Auction was weighed today and was only 4 lb 3 oz. He was the smallest rooster on the property. I am pretty sure the hens are not full grown as yet. The eggs we are getting at this time are small on the egg scale.

My two Breda are nearly identical in color to the two above. One is a really light blue and one is the other a dark blue. Does anyone know what causes this wide variation in tones of blue?

Also, to give a reference on size, my Breda were hatched with Birchen Marans and Basque Hens. The Breda are only about 2/3 the size of these other two breeds.

And I have 1 dark and 3 blue like that picture too. My Breda are a little smaller than the Marans roo that was hatched with them too.

hello all!
Just popping in to ask a bit of advice. i have 6 Breda chicks that are almost 9 weeks old. I am trying to sex them, and having a hard time. without a giant red comb screaming "I am a boy!" in my face, i am convinced they are all girls. Any tips or tricks you all can offer a breda newbie?

You are correct without the comb it does take longer. We have noticed the waddle get larger faster in the roos but it is not as quick a tell as the combs. If anyone else notices something please share.

Same here. The roos redden up faster. Mine are about 4 months and now I can tell for sure.

The one on the left I was told was a black and the one on the right was a blue. From Greenfire.

Mine are about the same age. They are all smaller than their Marans hatch mate (who has a big red comb and has been crowing for weeks). 2 of them have waddles and 2 dont. None have any comb to speak of. I am assuming 2 boys and 2 girls but hoping for girls.
