Thanks. A fellow BYCer has taken care of them for about 18 months while I had surgery and then got their coop ready! They are a bit glum at the moment since they are in quarantine, but I do give them mealworms.....which they love! I love the gentle way they talk to you, it's quite soothing.
So nice you have a BYC friend! My Breda is almost 11/2 yrs old and she never fails to amuse us! At first ours gave us the impression that she was standoffish until that first arrival day she came out of the kennel (we leave the door open to give the chickens a chance to explore) and she sought us out in the other room (Actually the cockerel we had did the same thing). And like a normal outgoing Breda she was looking at our fingers to see if we had something tasty for her to try! She goes up to strangers/visitors with no fear. She curiously goes beak to nose with the next door Chow Chow and another small Yorkie mix through the chainlink fence - she has no fear of anything - except aerial distractions like hawks and helicopters! Because she doesn't get frightened or flap (like skittish Ameraucanas) the dogs calmly sniff her and follow her foraging along the fence. She seems to trust everyone - maybe not safe so I'm glad we have the new fence all around. And the Breda voice is quite unique - never had a chicken with that low grumble sound and you're right - it is soothing.
