Found this Derpy post today and read the entire 120 pages. My mouth is sore from smiling!
Dear Fud Lady, thank you sharing Derperella's story and brightening my day! It is a rare gift to be able to see the unique wonder in an individual that many would dismiss as "defective," and it is obvious from the enthusiastic responses that your gift is appreciated by so many of Derp's fans. I think most of us feel that we are imperfect in some way, and to see imperfections celebrated in such a humorous and loving way is very comforting and inspiring.
I am touched by Derperella's good-natured acceptance of her own abilities and her obvious enjoyment of life. Who else would have a grill as a best friend (when you'd think it would be a chicken's worst nightmare)? And with buddies like Coho, Chickadee, and the Fud People, being top of the pecking order seems quite pointless. We could all benefit from roosting on our favorite chair and staring a bit more; the chicken version of "stop and smell the roses."
If you ever do write a book, I think its lessons would be extremely validating for children with Aspergers and Autism. They too follow a different path through life, and Derperella, with her crooked head and quirky behaviors (like her first egg!!
), would be the perfect positive role model.
Thank you for illuminating such an endearing character! "I am here nao, Fud Lady!" and "Goin' round the Rooster" are in my head forever! You have another fan.
Best wishes to you and yours!
