Thanks! The coop/ run itself is set just on dirt. Then we did a 1' perimeter with hardware cloth on the ground all around it. Then we covered that with gravel. It probably does help with drainage but that wasn't its main purpose. The inside of the run is wood chips (which I love). And the hen house has hemp bedding.WOW!!! Gorgeous coop! Can I ask you 2 questions? 1. What did you put down under the coop? Looks like crushed rock? What is that for, drainage? I'm thinking of doing a shed conversion and wanting to try to figure out what to set it on and also for the run. Question 2....How did the water thing (it's heated, right) hold up for the winter??
The waterer was amazing during the winter! It worked without any problems. It has an exterior fish pond pump that circulates the water through the system, and a livestock heater in the rain barrel to keep it above freezing temperature. The pump finally died and needed to be replaced but it was running continuously for 1.5 years so that's not bad. They're also pretty cheap and available on Amazon.
