I had empty waterers this morning. I guess the weather made everyone thirsty. I had to fill about 1/2 of them. Weird though that my Cuba hen drinks so little water. I dump her's just to keep it fresh, but she really doesn't drink much at all.

Fat Chick has been setting on eggs. She was out and I heard a ruckus and went to see what was wrong. I wish I had marked her eggs. I got to the box and she was puffed up and mad as heck. I look at the box and I sure hope no eggs are smashed in there, but she picked the favorite box to lay in and I found 3 hens trying to make deposits. Fat chick was crouched down, fluffed and just irate. I ended up giving her some FBCM and AM eggs along with a couple of her own. I'm hoping some of her chicks will hatch out lavender egg layers.    She's been determined to sit for almost a month, maybe more and I contantly remove eggs. Today I feel the need to mark them, so I know what is supposed to be there. I really feel the need since this is what was in the box earlier.

My sister set this to me through her FB. I can't even get the stupid thing to scroll tonight. Did I mention how much I hate FB? LOL

Anyway, I thought I'd post it all in here . Might add it to the first post, but I think just the thread would be fine. Then again I could post a thread about it. hmmm

Hey Everyone!
My school is holding an event special for all of you who have animals. It is COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE and we will include a free dose of Frontline (flea/tick preventative), pet first aid demo, spa treatments, and general physical examinations from our Vet Tech students (including me!). The event is from 12:00pm-5:00pm April 24th and any leashed/kenneled cat or dog is welcome. Remember, it's FREE!

I've never had a broody set in the laying box. If she does, what are the issues with the other chickens? They have 6 boxes but she's right in the middle in the favorite box, although they use three. Wait, I take it back, I did have one hatch in the laying box, like 20 years ago, but the chicks were dead when I found them and I thought the other chickens killed them?????
What do you think? Oh, and if she does follow through with this, how do I sneak in my polish eggs without breaking her brood?

Hopefully your's won't scare the heck out of you like one of mine just did. I had forgotten to plug the brooder in that sits on my back porch. OK I call it a covered patio, but I seem to have taken on words that my husband used to use. We'd go back and forth about things like that. Anyway I also filled up the waterer and then thought I'd check my broodies. Fat Chick did her regular growl and then right next to her is either Shady or Wilma in another box. No eggs, but she ain't moving. Then I checked the big dog pen I have the Silver Phoenix in and my broody was sitting there kind of leaning over. I didn't see her blink, shined a light at her and NOTHING. I had to move two hens that were comfy on top, so I could get the door open. Still she just stared, not blinking. I reached in saying "nnnooooooo" and trying moving her, then when I moved her again she started growling and glared at me. I think I need to take a good look at her tomorrow. Not because I'm worried, but my light is wearing out and I want to look at her and see what markings near her eyes could have looked like she had her eyes wide open. Scared the bejeebers outta me.

I hope she sits for you. I just put an egg in front of them and if they tuck it I put another. It's pretty easy if they are sitting tight. Good luck. Hope you get a great hatch.
