Usually beaded parts for dance ragalia although I don't do that much any more. I might start up again though. OR, jewelry or beaded vessels, or whatever.

Or...........Beaded keychains.jpeg things like these.

It's the shape that makes the breed, and the color that makes the variety.

So I am up to 10 BCMs now.  3 of them were from my own pullets.  I had every intention of marking them when they hatched so I would know which were which but they hatched at night, then they jumped the divider so I have no idea which ones are mine.  I can probably tell once they get older since most of my pullets have too much leg and foot feathering and the others shouldn't have that issue.  In fact a couple of my marans girls look almost like cochins their feet are so fluffy!!!  haha   Is it terrible that I like this look?      smile.png

I should let you have some of these babies.  If you mix them with yours hopefully you will get the light feathering on the outside of the shank and last toe like you want.

This is the APA description:  Toes – four long and well-separated toes on each foot. Outer toes lightly feathered, middle toes free from feathers.

Walt

Yep some of mine have way too much feathering some don't have enough.  Hoping after a couple of years they will even each other out some.  But since egg color is my main focus I will not stress out about it.  Not yet anyway.   smile.png

I spent entirely too much money on beads and needles this weekend. I'm exhausted and can barely move, but this weekend was the most fun I've had since Bill died. Got some of my moojoo back I think. I looked for more of the crimps, but they had zero. One of the drums invited us to the Pow Wow on their reservation next month. If I go I'm going to see if there is someone there selling them. I do have some coming this month though, but probably not for a couple of weeks.

I'm so glad you had a good time!!!  Don't stress about the crimps.  I'm just making a few pairs of earrings for the girls and with moving two households this next month we will not have time to visit them anytime soon anyway.  I'm not nearly as talented as you are but since they haven't seen the quality stuff hopefully they will like them.   hahaha

Uh Oh .......I better watch it or all this bead talk will have me heading upstairs to the bead room where I can easily get lost........LOL. I am doing chicken chores & yard work for now while I have my son & a friend to help me. They are out there now pressure washing all my growout pen (peach bins) & spraying everything with TrekTol when they dry. It will be awhile before I have birds to transfer to them. I have really cut back on hatching.

Who need crimps, as in crimp beads I assume) ?? I have tons...Is it you Kim or Sunny? Do you need me to send some??? Just let me know.

Should have mentioned that these are not my work. They are made by one of my favorite beading families and we have always bought from them at Pow Wow. This is the way they support their family, so I try to pick something up and my older daughters all love the dad''s bracelettes. I think it's the parents. 8 kids and 10 grandkids or opposite on those 2 numbers.  I do make these too though. And I sell more of the corns, pigs and frogs than anything else. I bought a few other things from them, but those were for the little girls to get Vanessa for Mother's Day. She always asks why I don't just make her something myself, but Bill liked this guy and they'd talk during lulls in the day, so I just feel like I need to keep that up. Plus I have made her some things and had her help with them, so not like I do nothing at all, but I haven't really done much of anything in almost 2 years.

Sunny, I'll be sending these out today. I had them all bagged up and sitting by my laptop. I figured if I didn't get to the PO before I left I could send them while I was gone and I forgot all about them. I hope you can use the extra things I added. Really disappointed they didn't have any of these things at the Pow Wow, cause I'd add more.

BTW, Karen is a talented person and does so many things. You need to see some of her work. When I first saw Karen I knew I'd recognize her forever, because she reminded me of my aunt and that woman was extremely talented, so she reminds me of her even more.

I have 2 bustles to make for a dancer. I can't wait to get a pic when he's in full ragalia. He's 10 and has won several Fancy Dance competitions. I've been hard headed for years and most of my beads are size #15 and #16. I had to have everything soooooo intricate, but between my eyes and hands I get frustrated and it wasn't as soothing and theraputic as it used to be. More like work, so I'm breaking down and using size #11 and #12s and hoping I feel as good about doing this as I used to. I also have a flute, 2 staffs and some drum sticks to do. I picked out all of my beads while I was there and the vendor I use saves all the lots of each color for me. Then I pay for some and they send them to me. Problem is getting everything paid for and here before I can start. I also have 3 Jingle dresses, a Fancy Shawl dress and 25 shawls to make. I think I got to far over my head, but if so I have a couple of people who I used to contract work for my company that I know can take up the slack and can always use the money.

When I first met Bill I would go to the places that used to be in the Bay Area and buy hanks of one to five colors and take them home and put them away. He told everyone that I bought all this stuff to make things out of but I never made anything. Then I pulled out all my colors one day and made a belt and some hair pieces that were ordered and made up a bunch of extra earrings. He grabbed a frame of earrings and took them to a friend's house to show her, because she also beaded and he came home with money and no earrings. LOL Every hospital he worked at has employees that either own my beadwork or silver work, so he was a great salesman and promoter for me. I haven't made anything since he died, but he had sold almost everything I had made over about 3 months, just going to work and I had a lot of things made. All that stuff was what I was supposed to be taking to a craft fair the summer he died.

One of the reasons I want more land and turkeys is because we use a lot of turkey feathers for regalia and I think it would be nice to not have to buy them.

I lost another doe this morning. I was gone for 3 days and paranoid that something would happen while I was gone and everything was fine when I got home. Went out this morning and found her dead in her cage. Her water bottle was 1/2 full and she had 2 fed cups in there and one  was full and the other 1/2 full. There was just a little hay in the holder, but it wasn't gone. I don't know what happened.

I had 2 chicks hatched on friday before I left and nothing else by the time I got home. Then I got a few yesterday. I got a Phoenix to hatch! It hangs out with the lone quial chick and they almost look like they belong together. LOL  OK I need to find my sink. Gone all weekend and bought a pizza last night and my sink looks like I fed a family of 30!

I didn't know you used turkey feathers, Kim. What colors, and which feathers? I'll save you some the next time I slaughter, and sometimes I can pick up clean ones in the pen. I have a Blue Palm jake, a Mottled Black jake and hen, a pair of young Broad Breasted Bronzes, and a young Midget White jake. And some upcoming crosses.
I lost my whole flock due to poor biosecurity. Read about it here: Infectious Laryngotracheitis, and learn from my mistakes so it doesn't happen to you.

Sorry, the site is acting up at the moment and I can't quote.

Just wanted to say, I love the frog (I raise frogs), but then I wanted to say, love the corn, oh and the hummingbird.........and the flying pig...................dang, I wouldn't be able to decide.

Deb

The difference between breakfast and chicks, is the temperature you use to "cook" the eggs!

What breeds do I have?  More than any sane person would own.

Well as usual the milti quote isn't working. What a drag!

Jules, anything and everything. It doesn't matter what pattern feather, we use them all. I'd like to raise at least a few white birds so I can dye the feathers, but that's for later on. I really need more room, housewise and yardwise.

Deb I know what you mean. Back when I was making these things all the time I had them all hooked together, but had to have a release so I wouldn't mess up my ignition. I never lost my keys though. LOL I've never made the hummingbirds into key chains. I guess I may have too. I've made them to use on necklaces and I even sold the one I made for myself. I want another one, so if I get time to make something for me, I'll have another one. The frogs and pigs I can never make enough of. They sell like hotcakes. I beaded a huge frog for a lady several years ago that weighed close to 15 pounds once it was done. That thing took forever. I was so bored with it by the time I finished it I didn't make the little frogs again for 2 years. I'd try, but I just couldn't do it. ha ha

Karen I already passed of a few things to someone else. Some of them had to be traditional Navajo and I can't copy their designs, so a lady in the Bay Area and her sister are going to do them. I was really kind of relieved, because once I took a good look at this list I started to panic. They need to have a money source too, so hopefully it will help them. All I really wanted to do was make some small items and sell them, but I opened my mouth and said "sure I can do those." I had even more than I mentioned here and a few of these are being done by them. I don't know what I was thinking with the limited amount of space I have.

Sunny, I just finished packing eggs. Didn't make it to the PO, but I also didn't take my car in today and have to do it for sure in the morning. I'll go mail everything off as early as possible in the morning. You should get them by the weekend though.
