Dakotah and I added the last panel to the first big hoop coop yesterday. I didn't realize how low the power lines were until then. YIPES!! We stood back and looked at our work and we heard some snapping. Half of the second section and both pipes of the last one snapped at the top where the connectors are. The neighbors were in their backyard watching the fiasco, but we didn't know till we were both cracking up and  yelled "Our wok here is done!" Then we heard the laughing behind us. We're just lucky they didn't fly up and hit those wires. Today we have to figure out how to take it down without hitting those darn things. I'm switching to a different design. Oh well, I took a shot! LOL

There's a true story that the firefighters here tell about a strange medical call that they went to. All the dispatcher said was medical aid needed for an accident. The address was at a rural farm. They arrived on scene and couldn't find anyone at first. They did find a dead squirrel next to a dead dog and some shoes next to an irrigation pipe. Walking around the house, they found a guy sitting on the steps, barefoot, drinking a beer. He was incoherent at first. Turns out, the guy's dog had cornered a squirrel inside a large metal field irrigation pipe. He lifted up the end of the pipe so that the squirrel would fall out and hit the overhead power line. It electrocuted the squirrel & dog and blew his shoes right off his feet.

So be careful of those wires!

We used aluminium sprinkler pipes to irrigate the Prune Orchard. A neighbor changed them one time when we were on vacation and he touched the pipe to a power wire. We wore rubber boots so he did not get shocked but he blew the steel sprinkler head off of the end of the pipe!

Electrocution is one of the top causes of death in America...For accidental deaths.

I have no idea what I was thinking when I set things up there. The new coop will not be hooped. The sections are way too long to deal with and I don't want anyone including me hurt. I'm going to snap the rest of them before I take it down. I've known people who were electrocuted. I only know one that lived and he was in the hospital for months. At least the top pieces snapped. I'm hoping that keeps the sections from popping up when I take it down. Dakotah has no mental capasity for figuring out what he needs to do to manuver anything. I think that **** drivers license may NEVER happen. Top that off with no coordination and ....well...I think I'll be doing this all myself. Wish me luck.

I wish I could help. Still having major issues with my hip/SI joint. Taking morphine and Vicoden dosen't touch the pain. My 8 year old daughter is taking care of all the poultry. It's a huge job that involves cleaning 3 ponds, feeding and watering 150+ birds. Huge responsibility but she does it with a smile. This is Sebastian and Paige a few days ago
