CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread - Page 9

The So-Cal thread. This one is cool because both northerners and southerners and everyone in between could communicate.

I figured that must be the one you meant when you talked about how huge it was.  Have you posted a link for it here?  I'll go check the OP.  Kim was going to add them there.
Yep it's there.  Cool, I'll have to check it out sometime.  I was born In Newport Beach and lived in orange County for most of my childhood.

I grew up in the SFV most of my life from the time I was six years old up to about 4 years ago when we moved to the High Desert.

Welcome TGreenhut!  I've lived in much of CA myself.  How do you like it out in Wilton?  That's out by Elk Grove, right?

Well Lancaster's not too far from the San Fernando Valley.  The last place I lived in So Cal was Yorba Linda but that was 40 something years ago.  I love the Lancaster area.  Less congested than the Valley.  Not crazy about traffic.   sickbyc
Course I haven't been through Lancaster in a very long time, I'm sure it has changed a lot since then.

I haven't known Lancaster before it was this big. But it is pretty big and there are some congested areas.
I can't believe that you can't have chickens here unless you have a lot >15000 sq. feet (and it is more 'country' out here) but in the Valley or L.A. you can have chickens w/o having sq. foot restrictions. I think it is only restrictions on how close the coop is from residences. We had three hens when I lived there and everyday I could hear them with their egg songs.

Hi TGreenhut...I have no idea where Wilton is. CA is so big and I don't know very many parts of it!

That is wierd  Yes the only restrictions I've seen, in the cities I lived in, were so many feet from dwellings and property lines.  Boy I think you need to fight to change those restrictions!  That is excessive!  Especially when you don't have roos.  There is no way that hens are louder than dogs!

Yes, my point exactly! Our lot is about 8500 sq. feet and our backyard is very big. We even have those block walls. We live next to a high school and football season is here, so it gets loud every Sat. And of course we have lots of neighbors with dogs and even very loud kids. There's even a guy who rides his small, noisy motorcycle around at 10p.m. Well, beats me. barnie

I'll try to update the member list later or at least in the next couple of days.

I grew up in the Bay Area and although I went places as a kid, I couldn't tell you what direction anything is. I moved to Modesto and I found out that places I thought were South are close to here or up North. Who knew???

I'v been trying to find a place extra cheap to buy closer to Dixon or Fairfield and I can't figure out what's even around there. I've found some, but I have no idea how to find more areas. We had just talked about finally being able to move anywhere we wanted, but since Bill died I just want to move closer to the cemetery. I used to see so many cheap places and think OMG I could do that, but now I can't find anything and I want to find a place before next sept, when the rest of my dad's money shows u[. It's not much, but unlike wanting everything when I had a husband that would give me what I wanted, I just need cheap, away from people and animal friendly.

Got up and it was actually cool outside.

Fed all the animals and started pulling an old wire rabbit cage apart so I can stack them and paint them. Got half way through and it started sprinkling, so grabbed the dogs Makayla and I put them away. The dog run is another project. 4-5 months and I'm still not getting it done.

Then I went to move my new AM roo and he got scared and flew over my shoulder. His wing hit me straight in the eye. He took off under a grown out stump that I've let get that way for shade. Kayla and I ran all over the back yard trying to catch him. He kept getting back up under the stump, so she ran and got my son and his friend. Here we are all surrounding him and then the neighbor kids came to the fence yelling and screaming and jumping up and down. I was affraid he'd have a heart attack.

He finally climbed under the palm. You know the kind with the rock hard frooms and the hooked spiky thorns?? Yeah well I couldn't send a kid in so I had to hold those down in flip flops and pull some back. Then I let go when I finally had my hand on his back enough to pull his wings in and scoop him up. Yep they got me.

Now he's in a crate in the garage, since his new home isn't done enough to leave him out. The other AM cockerel I got a couple of weeks ago decided he's hanging in a grow out pen. Funny, he's lav and he got the lav pullets to separate from their grownout pen and join the other. He's the only boy in there, so he's happy.

Ran low on money and just got a little, so running to the feed store soon, for more feed.

Not even noon and I'm tired already. I did other things too, so not just what was mentioned.

Oh and it's been so hot I left the moon roof open an bit on my car and the windows cracked a bit and didn't remember until the little bit of rain or the sprinkling stopped. Thank goodness for leather or I'd have some soggy seats. But if this is our storm I'm thankful for that.
