Ghosts and the Paranormal... - Page 2

Our house is three years old.  The hubby contracted the work he couldn't do and used the old boy network to help him with the work he could do.  Nestled smack dab in the middle of 36 acres, our house stands proudly among the native grasses.  A creek curls along the back where various trees grow.

I started staying in the house first and slept upstairs.  I was amazed at the amount of noise that went on at night time.  Oh,  I heard the usual settling house noises but didn't appreciate the footsteps running up and down the stairs half the night.  Irritated from being awakened I finally yelled at the 'ghost' to stop running up the stairs.

"Us live people are trying to sleep!"  I shouted and shoved the pillow over my head.

Amazingly the pattering of bare feet on hardwood stopped.

When the hubby finally got the idea I was ready to move in, we moved all the animals and furniture, and readied the other house for sale.

Now we were sleeping in the master bedroom and I heard humming one night coming from the master bathroom.  The same tune over and over.  I could imagine somebody sitting on the toilet and humming while doing their business.  My husband heard it, too, and eventually crawled under the house to look for a radio or something.  Never found a thing.  So, one night, when I had to use the facilities, I heard the humming and demanded the invisible occupant to get out of the way or I'd move them out of the way.

The humming immediately stopped.  Never heard the noise again.  Instead,  the next night,  I heard another noise and rose to investigate.  To my surprise my roll of toilet paper was spinning like mad sending sheet after sheet of white squares to the floor.

"Hey!"  I shouted.  "That stuff cost money!  Leave it alone!"

The roll stopped moving.  Never had that problem again.

A week later  I  had washed clothes and hung three t-shirts and a sweatshirt from the door jam of the smaller bedroom.  While my husband and I watched tv,  I watched the sweatshirt swing back and forth as if somebody was tugging on the shirt in an attempt to pull it off the hanger.  The t-shirts did not move.

I nudged the hubby who decided to ignore the activity as his favorite tv show was on.

"Leave the shirt alone!"  I ordered and the shirt stopped moving.  Immediately-as if somebody held the shirt in place.

"Thank you,"  I said and resumed watching the tv.

The latest prank was several months ago.  Our ghost apparently dissected my husband's foo-foo thing he washes his body with and strung it out along the bathtub.  I thought the hubby did it.  The hubby thought I did it.

A few weeks ago,  the great grand son of the original land owner came to visit.  Although, he came to ask about transmission repair, he revealed his family had been stunned when the property was sold.

"This was the original piece of land my great grand pa bought.  He lived here, raised his kids here, and died here.  We don't know why grand pa sold this place,"  he said as he stood on the back deck.  "Just knocked the wind out of us."

"I can imagine," I said.  "That was the first thing I asked during the closing.  I asked Mr.  Smith  (named changed) if this sale would upset family members as I noticed he never had for sale signs on the property.  Your grandfather assured me all was well within his family.  He did mention something about a divorce."

The young man shook his head and grunted.  "We never thought he would sell this property."

"Well, I promise we'll take care of the place, and don't plan to put a trailer park here,"  I assured him.

"Can you tell me why you moved here?"  he asked.

"Privacy.  Don't like people living in my backyard.  So I bought a bigger yard."

He nodded and made arrangements to have his transmission repaired.

So, I'm wondering if our ghost is dear old great -grand dad who is finally glad to get indoor plumbing.  I don't mind sharing with the deceased.  But he better remember to flush afterwards.

Ham/CB radio operator.

Sounds like you are hearing a radio operators signal being absorbed by the wiring in your house an appliances.

I wont get in to all the things I have saw over they years but I will say that I know very few local Christians that don't believe in ghosts.

Whatever your faith may be,  if things that you experience make you question it,  then it needs to be questioned.  Blind faith is no faith at all and faith that requires you not to know or question is not healthy.

There are a number of passages in the bible that speak of spirits and unexplained phenomena - if you follow the teachings of Jesus then you read that there are things you are not meant to understand,  but never that you are not meant to question.

I have personally had enough experiences with spirits that I had to accommodate their existence in my world view.  But, don't dismiss the idea of electrical interference being the source of some of the sounds you hear.  The other weird one is baby monitors which can pick up strange bandwidth and it can come out oddly.  If you think about the number of electrical signals we put in the air, from cell phones to wifi it is not unlikely that you'll get cross over interference and sound being picked up by other wires.

Interesting stories, theoldchick! At least the ghosts didn't chase you out of the house this time!

We lived in/got married in a haunted house in Louisiana.  I could write on and on about all the things we saw and experienced in that house in the 7 months we lived there.  The ONLY reason we moved was not because of all the odd things that happened but because it was a 47 mile commute each way to/from work every day, and it was getting really hard on me and my car.

My sister, who is a mortician, brings the cremated remains of the homeless to her house and scatters them in the flowerbeds....I told her, that's bad JuJu. One day, they are all going to rise up and get her.

Really, I seriously doubt that! At least they would be appreciative of being one on one with Mother Nature and being surrounded by flowers, lovingly cared by your sister! tongue

I'm definaly a believer, but my hubby is not.  I've had my fair share experiences growing up.  It is very frightening as a child, but now that I'm grown, it wouldn't be so scary if I encounter anything in the future as long as their harmless.

Edited for spelling.

First off let me say, I don't live in a haunted house, just a boring 1950's rambler. But this last January I awoke one night to hearing a voice softly whispering in my bedroom. I go from dead asleep to instantly freaked outta my mind thinking someone's in the house. Do I think about any of the potential weapons... NO! I come out of the bed yelling "You better get the #$%^ outta here" I stomp my way through the house searching closets etc. Never found anything. Then I think someone's must have been outside, so out I go and search the yards. Never found anything. Continued to happen every night for about 2 weeks. I think coworkers were looking at me a bit strangly with my stories, of hearing voices. roll
I eventually get tired of it and searched for any possible thing that could be talking at night. No broken radios, tvs; nothing left on. A few weeks later I was picking up some things in the bedroom, and looked at a watch that had been given to me at Christmas. As I looked at the owner guide, I realize it is a talking watch. th

I usually will even go outside to make sure it is not coming from a neighboring house or business, but I never hear anything outside.

On several occasions when we used to mostly use the bathroom at the rear of our house I would get out late and night and go back there and while everyone else would be asleep I would hear what sounded like someone talking outside. Several times I got up the courage to either look outside or if I was really brave actually go outside and I never seen anything. Most of the time I do not feel like there is any presence at my house, but there has been a few strange occurrences. I remember years ago when I was still in school and my parents lived here I would come home everyday and be here by myself for several hours. On one day I got home and decided to walk to the back of our property to check and see what the water level was like in our pond. Upon getting close to the house on the way back I noticed the door was open. From inside I heard what very clearly sounded like two men arguing in Spanish. I got scared and used my cell phone to call my mom who was an hour away still at work because I literally thought a couple of men had broken into our house while I was out by the pond. She didn't seem to really believe me so she reluctantly called my grandpa and asked him to come check the house out. I hid behind a hay bale and watched the house for the whole 10 minutes it took him to get there. No one ever left the house. He went in and looked around and didn't find anyone. He stayed there with me until my dad got home and did a through search of the house and never found anything out of place. On very rare occasions my husband or I get the feeling of someone watching us. A friend of mine was staying with us awhile back and he was getting the strange sensation that someone was watching him while he was in the shower. He said he looked out into the living room (why he didn't shut the bathroom door I do not know) and thought he caught a glimpse of a man dressed in a mariachi suit as strange as that sounds.

The first time I remember ever seeing what I thought to be a ghost was when I was about 6-7. My grandmother had a cat at her house I loved. I had just gotten to her house for the weekend and was sitting in the living room. The cat was a calico named Calico lol. She did have one other cat but it was mostly black with a little white. I seen a cat that looked just like Calico run from the kitchen into the bedroom. Since Calico usually greeted me when I first got there I thought it strange she did not come to say hi, so I went after her calling her name. My grandma stopped me and asked me to come into the living room and sit down. She then proceeded to tell me that Calico had gotten outside and had been killed by a car a few days before. I know I clearly seen a cat run by and it was a mostly white cat. I do not have any other explanation than it had to have been Calico still hanging around even after she had passed away.

I have seen a few other things too. I often  stay at my grandparents house during the day helping them out. One day I was walking down the hallway and at the far end of it there is a mirror. In the end of it I seen a man behind me that I thought was my grandpa. I turned around to say something to him and he was not there. I went back out the kitchen to look for him and noticed out the window their van was gone. They were not even home. More than once I have been at their house alone and have gotten such an eerie feeling that I have literally gone outside and sat on the porch and waited until someone got there to even go back inside.

There has been other things as well  but those are some of the main ones I can think of at the moment.

One of the real reasons I am torn is because this month is the two year anniversary of the day my grandpa on my dad's side passed away very suddenly (as in conscience and coherent when the ambulance came to pick him up because he was not feeling well, to in a coma by time he got into the hospital without ever having a chance to tell anyone any type of goodbye, and gone a few hours later.). If there was some way for him to come back to us (specially if he could play a practical joke on us), I would think he would be the type to try. I don't know maybe he was content to move on as soon as he passed away. I do believe though when he was in the coma and could not respond, he knew we were with him at the end. He actually died within minutes of my great grandma (his mom)  getting to the hospital and saying goodbye...maybe that was enough for him. I just wish I knew that if people did not go straight to heaven or hell when they died...why and how some stick around and others do not. I guess that is not for us to know.

On a strange note a few weeks ago my dad ran into an old friend of my grandpas that did not know he had passed away. He had told my dad that he had seen my grandpa a few days before at a cafe my grandpa often went to for breakfast and had a good conversation with him. My dad told him that was impossible because my grandpa had been dead for nearly two years and the guy was dumbfounded. He was pretty insistent that it was without a doubt my grandpa that he had talked to.
