Incubators Anonymous

Hello my name is Michele and I am a incubating addict. I have 4 different settings as we speak. One incubator in lock down with BCM's. Second incubator with Wynette's BCM's, Silkies, Bob whites for a neighbor and a hen that has resigned herself to sit on eggs no mater what happens, still has not hatched any and she's been trying all summer. I just got done with a hatch on Tuesday, another hen hatch 4 and I got 4.

I am very old school I have two GFQ Genesis Hovabator with the digital read out for humidity and temp as long as I keep it set up where there aren't a lot of windows or drafts the temps and humidity are pretty well spot on. It does get pretty dirty during a hatch so disinfecting it between hatches is very important. I use one as a incubator with turner and am constantly adding eggs to that one with dates and notes on each egg.

I run the second as a hatcher and move the eggs there as they are getting ready to go into lockdown. I try and stagger it enough so I won't have to open the incubator while eggs are pipped unless there is a problem. Usually more with ducks than with chickens.

I would love a cabinet incubator but I think if I did that my husband might make me move into the barn with the chickens since I promised to be good and not hatch too many each year 100-200 isn't too many right??

Collecting eggs right now for first hatch of the season going to set on the 24th and hatch out on the 14th (Valentines day) basically to test the fertility of my home flock (three hens one roo) I have two dozen eggs coming beginning of May that I am so excited to get.

Pretty much looking to do a continuous hatch this spring until around June then will be done until the following spring. With how cold fall and winter is up here I want to make sure everyone is feathered out well before winter sets in.
