Incubators Anonymous - Page 218

Yeah that makes sense. I don't plan on breeding anytime soon so that's a non issue with me.

Wife to a marine, Mom to: 2 boys, a husky, a corn snake, and a dozen hatching eggs set to ship 5/21!

gig.gifTHat's what you think right now. . . . in 6 months or 12 months from now will want to breed those wonderful birds you hatched?   This is incubators anonymous for a reason--we love to hatch!! And it's infectious . . . .

Haha. Well, I won't have space until we move. So there's only so much I can do until then. I would want to build seperate pens for each breed and everything else. I literally don't have space for that right now. I'll be either rehoming the Roos or sending them to freezer camp, depending their breed.

well how is everyone hatches doing?  I am done with mine. .My last 5 have not hatched as of yet and its been about 3 days sense the others have all hatched.  I have some I can move into that bator but this time I think  I want to try and hatch them out in the house instead of having it in the barn.

Not sure yet. Its not really inconvient to have it out in the barn sense that is where my grow out pen is and my brooders are set up.  Just thinking be easier at night when I am in the house already to just make sure things are fine before I go to bed.

I have my first order for chicks and they want 6 silkies and my neighbor wants 2 silkies and 2 EE's.

I am Deana and Live in Texas.

I am owned by horses, chickens, pig, donkey, geese and her mate, peacocks, turkey and his hen, and goats.

I love talking to other who have a love for farm life and raising chickens and the little peeps. I also quilt, and enjoy doing all sorts of crafts

Chickens are like Potato Chips... You cannot have just one.

OK, I mark ALL my eggs by pen and I use dividers at hatch AND I tag them all with vet wrap..... and hope it does not come off.  I find some COLORS of Vet wrap don't work very well, anybody else?

I also keep my KEEPER chicks in a different brooder so as not to sell them by mistake.tongue.png  I have kinda given up on the Marans.... I have had SOOOOO many people want chicks.... I don't really think I have any to raise up for me...... Got to fix that.... but they need to start laying again.  I do have chicks with the broodies..... I need to check them out and find the paperwork on which broody hatched what chicks.  he.gif  I did write it down... I know I did!   No more Marans chicks for sale for a while.... I need some for me. big_smile.png

What kind of pen? I tried permanent marker last year... not great. I used food coloring on layer's vent to discriminate which hen each egg came from. That might be messy on chick backs! Anything I put on a leg they outgrow so fast... I'm always checking, it seems. I just bought Livestock markers (looks like chalk) at TS. I haven't tried it yet. Something should work, easy to put on, lasts a couple of months, can't hurt them. So.... what kind of pen?

Sorry the PEN was the Pen the birds are in.  I mark the eggs with pencil.  The marans eggs I mark with an artist pencil that is white.  The vet wrap can stay on for a long time.... months.  After they get to be about 3 months, I use velcro and use pipe cleaners for the color markers.  I can't put up a pic right now, if I can remember I will later.
