temp in my incubator at 102 degrees and can't get it to lower...

I have the thermometer on top of my eggs and it is reading 102. I've adjusted the temp several times and it won't change. The incubator is borrowed. I just put the eggs in last night at 6pm. The temp was at 100 for the first several hours. I plugged it in in the morning and it was running at 100 all day. I noticed the increase at about 2:45am. Will this temp be too high for the eggs or will they still be okay as long as the temp stays the same?

Also, if this information is important.....the incubator will heat until it reaches 102, turn off, and come back on when the temp reaches about 100 and trun off again at 102.

This is the first time I've done this. I'm sorry for the redundant question. I have been looking over the site and learning a ton before posting this.

If it's a still air incubator temps are to run between 101 to 102 but nothing higher...

All other bators usually are run at 100...

After setting the eggs the temps should have dropped not increased but usually level out over a few hours to a day or so....
 
Maybe you should list the brand and model. Is it still air or forced air (with fan). Still air is to be at 101-102. Forced air at 99-5-100. With this type of info someone maybe able to help you better. I would also check with the person you borrowed it from. Maybe they have had this issue in the past and know what to do with it.

My incubator is still air and it is a Hova-Bator 1602N. I suppose I can breathe now.

I suppose in 21 days I'll have babies! If not all 15 at least some. Now 3 of them had been washed and refrigerated for a few day so they may or may not hatch, right? I threw them in as a 'let's see what happens' kinda thing.

Hi clarkstep! I am also new to hatching (just put eggs in thursday), and have the same bator 1602N. I am actually surprised how steady the temp has been after hearing about all the temp spikes. I got a thermometer that shows daily hi & lows so I know whats been going on in there. So far so good. I guess once you get these dialed in and don't fiddle with them they are fine. One thing to remember....around day 10 the eggs will start (hopefully) generating their own heat so you will have to turn down the heat. The instructions say 1 full turn, but I am not sure I trust the instructions, so I will be watching the bator all day.
 
Hi, I got more stable temps by loosely throwing a bubble wrap over mine esp the window. And putting it in a room that doesn't get hit by the sun, so the room doesn't fluxuate too much. Then you might have to turn it down a hair.
But the room may be causing the fluxuation.
 
Buy a second termometer. I had three termometers in my bator and they all gave different temperature, Finally I checked with a fever termometer and the mercery termometer that came with the bator was the correct one. if I had trusted the digital ones I would have cooked my chickes.
I am proud mama on three chicks borne to day and six more eggs has piped.
