Oxine, anyone?

... In another words-looks like a label change and oxine and oxine ah are the same now, no changes in what pathogens it is effective against. Please let me know if you find something different on the website. I printed the PDF's for both products.
AmenFarm.... I had posted elsewhere after comparing labels. This is what I had found... So there seemed to be SOME difference. Either that, or it goes back to an incorrect label. Still, makes me a bit uncomfortable.

"Comparing the labels, the one with AH say it kills Foot and Mouth Disease virus, Swine Vesicular disease virus, and African Swine Fever virus. The other - the one without AH on the label doesn't say that."

I think after reading the PDFs for both the Oxine and ProOxine AH the name change was to prevent this. One of us need to call the company, they list each killing the very same things on the website, but in the link i included it now says that ProOxine AH is now approved for PED, Probable because it can be used as a stronger solution. and I did not see those 3 diseases on the PDF's.

Do you activate it or not? I'm hearing mixed messages

My understanding is it needs to be activated to be effective against some of the things we would have concerns about - salmonella, etc.

Also, my understanding is that it is NOT considered organic.

Do not activate unless you are prepared to wear a respirator and suit up to protect your skin. This kills all life until it drys , then it becomes inert, reverting to table salt. I clean my coop by removing everything, cleaning first ( can't disinfect until the surface your disinfecting is clean.then when all surfaces are dry, disinfecting. Oxine has enough uses in the unactivated state that I use it for, I plan to use only when I'm doing a all in all out, total break down with a 3 week break from poultry or for something like a Styrofoam incubator that has to be fumagated. I've never had a reason to do that. Reasons; avian flu, etc.

Has anyone put Oxine (not activated) in their Chicken Fountain? Mine is getting a brown slim inside. I called the maker and he said yes but to drain it and then I read on here where people put 1/8 tsp in a gallon of water for the chickens to drink.

That's what I read on here as well. I do it and it does help keep the slime down.

I am using the oxine also to clean my incubators.and my coops but i just have to say im a little concerned when people are using it in humidifers in there home and places in their house Making houses close to as sterile as an operating room .
The reason Im concerned is we stay healthy by our bodies taking in germs through breathing or eating or on our skin tiny bits of bacteria which our bodies then send out white blood cells to fight off.
Then we are more immune to those germs as our bodies know what to do to kill that germ.
If we never are exposed and everything is disinfected around us so well we are at risk for a huge health problem if outside our home we or more likely our children ,since we most of us didnt grow up in such sterile conditions ourselves , come in contact with these germs..To build our army of germ fighters inside we need them to spar with a few germs.Know who they are how to kill them.
Example...American Indians died in droves from chickepox..when pilgrams came to America. We for the most part get ill and its gone because for centuries we have had minor exposure or immunity from our parents exposure. They had never had it in America at all until whites came. Thus death as their bodys had no immunity at all.
Some doctors today are exponents of exposing children to dirt and germs including rodent dung!!

Childrens allergies are going up in American some docs feel because of no exposer To germs.. many pediatricians feel because Americans are wanting an operating room sterile clean enviroment to raise their children in.
Also if as you say it is stopping chicken lung infections. By breathing the oxine fog .. i wonder then how good it is for humans to breath as we do have GOOD GERMS in and on our bodies also to balance the flora fauna of our systems.Im sure it is killing both good and bad....To kill some off may leave us suseptible to other things.
To clean poopy coop or slimy waterers seems fine but i wonder about the rest.
Just some food for thought.

Totally agree! the antibacterial hand stuff caused me to think this many years ago..then later, they came out with warning on the news. I would use it to fog for any residual mold after the junk almost killed me a few years ago but would NOT leave it on all the time

Is Vital Oxide an acceptable substitute for Oxine? Seems to be made of the same stuff, but I wasn't sure..
