This is still carrying the dark from the Mottleds even though his mom is only half Mottled and half MF. His dad being MF and buff Columbian and my foundation roo, Fred. But you see how that Mottled hangs on? So I put him back to all these buff girls and am getting a lot of yellow chicks.

I am still working on that darn type and need better wings on my roos but it is a long process, as you know all too well.

This fella is nice and I will probably only use him this one season and then sell him. He can add a bit to the program but he isn't one to stay like my other boys.

Still waiting to see how your Mottleds are growing! However, I know it is busy season, too. I am working a lot and getting little sleep. LOL Such is spring!

Can't wait to see offspring from this roo love.gif

green?  any pics?  can't say i've ever seen a chicken with green eyes. mine are all shades of red/orange/brown and a couple almost blacks.

Since Calicos will probably never be accepted into the APA I would not worry. However, you have many years to work on it before it becomes a color and pattern that can be consistently bred. This is just one extra piece of the puzzle to work on. As you work on feather color, leg color and correct type the eyes may well fall into place. At some point new blood will have to be brought in so the eye color could certainly be improved at that point.

Sorry I can't be of more help. I am one of those that thinks these little details do not necessarily make a better bird.

Bantam Cochins are my love! Mille Fleur projects, buff barred projects and black/blue Mottled. Chickens, Guineas, Ducks, Peafowl and Meal Worms. Contact me for hatching eggs and a link to my website.

Oh, Amy, I couldn't agree MORE~! I guess that's why we both breed for our own taste.

Better perspective! I am after all; breeding Calicos just because I absolutely fell in love with them~ I would love to see them accepted one day as a recognized breed~ Just too pretty to be left out love.gif

I would hope they eventually get added and will always breed for the best bird possible in the hopes that someday I can show mine off in a local show or even a fair. They are gorgeous and though I am not as far along with my breeding for this color or pattern I still like to keep ones here that may work for me in a breeding pen for that.

Actually, I adore the more white contrast rather than the MF pattern but know that the MF pattern needs help first to get accepted. Once I am breeding those consistently then I can focus on the Calico project in the numbers that I have for the MF, which is in the hundreds each year. I just can't focus too much on too many projects or I lose sight of objectives.

I will always support the Calicos!yesss.gif
