Do you use a chart or anything to keep up with your eggs?

After a life time of doing this, I can keep track of up to a dozen hens by spying on them, making mental notes, recognizing the color, size and shape of the egg and assigning it to the right hen.

After a dozen, I no longer can keep track. 

I think I may just keep a tally of all eggs, just so I can tell when they've recouped the cost of the coop!  I have 11 hens, so hopefully too many eggs to chart with any diligence

Because I have only 2 out of my 14 hens who are mature enough to be laying. I was not sure which girl laid the first egg on Sept. 1st., 5 days later we got the next egg, and 5 days after that the 3rd egg arrived. I thought it was the most mature hen Fiesta our BR, but I never saw her in the nest box. Then on Tues, there was a egg in the nest box before 8:30 am, and then again at noon, so I knew both girls were laying. Then yesterday, Baby Girl went into the nest box, and I went out a hour later & there was an egg, today the same thing, Baby girl was back in the nest box, and egg #7 was waiting when I got home. So I expect that Fiesta will be laying tomorrow.
All I do is mark it on the calendar, if I know who, I put down who it was.  And then I take pictures of them.

I write down how many eggs I get from each coop everyday on a calender. It helps to know if your production drops.

If you go to I think it is eggzy.net they have a pretty neat program that helps keep track of who is laying how much and total cost of your eggs, etc.

I use a calender too. From first laying right into spring to see any declines and generally keep a tally of eggs to feed cost.

It's incredible that you had 14 eggs from 5 pullets in one day. Perhaps your partner slipped in a dozen white store eggs to surprise you. That would account for 2 eggs a day and the impossibility of a hen laying 3 in one day

I wish someone who's smart would come up with an app for my phone for this.....  If I were smart enough I would do it...but alas, I'm just barely smart enough to use my phone.

X2 what Julie said.  I enter my eggs on eggzy.net. (www.eggzy.net)  From Eggzy, you can download all your eggs to your own computer (it would be .xls file format)  Each type of chicken you have will show up as a different color of eggs on your egg stand.  So your Easter Eggers would show up blue-green, your white layers white on the Icons.  Eggzy makes a couple of charts too (bar chart and pie chart).  They have the different designations in color to represent your different breeds.  You get an eggs per month calculation and your average eggs per week.  your cost per egg providing you enter your monthly costs, and also your cost per dozen.    I like the graphics and the continuity. 

In addition to that---I jot on a desk calendar when I pick them up. -- I have a tiny jewelry scale and I weigh the eggs. (just analytical I guess).  I write which of my hens laid the egg, and how much it weighed. 

I think that keeping track of your eggs, you will find that once you know a certain hen, she will lay close to the same weight with each egg.  colors and timing are different hints of who produced the egg as well.  Here's an example of what I mean.  My GC lays first of my 3, she will lay just about daily and her egg usually is around or above 2.5oz.  My smaller BPR lays a medium egg and it is usually around 1.9oz, sometimes 2.0, and then my larger BPR lays about 1.8oz.
