how much does a ostrich cost?

how much does a ostrich cost? i am just wondering because i would really like to have one

Costs have seemed to really go back up on them. Most of what i've seen start at $500 a bird and up...and like was mentioned, you'll spend more than that on the fence which needs to be 6 ft high minimum. Males get very dangerous, and i've seen them run into 4x4 posts trying to attack their keeper through the fence, and snap the post off the ground like twigs. So if you want one for a pet, go for a female...which arent nearly as pretty.
 
The only ostrich i've seen that look kinda of pretty was the Somolia Ostrich, has blue legs/neck. But still, I think Ostrich are at the bottom of the list for rattie beauty

For beauty, I would say the list starts with Cassowaries at number one, then Rheas, Ostrich, Emus, kiwi. If I get Ostriches in the future I want the Masai subspecies, which are the largest. I had a friend that bred them, the males were 9 ft tall, and got up to 450 lbs. Some of the subspecies aren't alot larger looking than emus, and that just doesnt impress me much. One day when I get rich and can build a expensive fence, i'll get some haha.
 
My list would have to be..

Rhea the most beautiful, then Cassowary, Emu, Somolia Ostrich, then all other Ostriches.

Kiwi are just in their own class, they are plain cute. Shame they are not more common, i'd love to have one of those cute little guys.

I hear a lot of people say Emus are ugly, but I dont see it. They have very soft and kind looking faces. Just a gentle and cute look to them.
 
Evidently you havent seen Cassowaries in person lol. The colors are almost fluorescent, and are very awesome in contrast to the glossy black feathers they have. The other ratites are dull, and no comparison. The prehistoric features of a Cassowary alone are almost unbelievable. Well thats my opinion anyway, I guess we all have different tastes
