Can quail be in the same pen with chickens?

this topic is asked every week atleast.... haha you get different answers from everybodyy. i say no too. everyone usually will get into arguments over it

I've heard some put them together. And sometimes not. its disease that everybody is worried about. If you would like to try it, go for it.

NO this is not okay. i dont see much debate.  yes if there are free range birds around your farm and your quail pens are away from your chicken coops you can get away with it. however quail and chickens not only will cause pecking order issues(death to quail) but also disease will end them surely soon after... do not do it. its just not a good deal. take everyone elses word for it who agrees with me after and the others who posted before me.

I disagree with those who say that putting quail with chickens will SURELY result in sick quail; this is simply not true. The disease/s that is/are in everyone's mind is either Coryza or Mycoplasma, both of which are not curable. This means that if your chickens have it they never get rid of it even though they may not show signs of it. Usually if quail get either, the disease will kill them. So yes, it is possible to NOT have disease transfer but it is safer to keep quail and chickens separated.

The only time a chicken carries a disease (thus having the ability to spread that disease to others) is when they themselves already have the disease.

i see your point shelly. but why risk it. these little birds mean more to me than my chickens(maybe) so the last thing im going to do it house them in the same areas when i dont have to. of course people do this alllllll the time. most chicken owners are NOT like most of us and LOVE them soo dearly. most look at them as EGG makers. nothing more and nothing less. so why would they care if anything happend. just buy more right? we value our birds here in BYC forums. i can say that for MOST of the people iv associated with..

HOWEVER YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT ABOUT NOT MIXING DUE TO MANY REASONS~ DISEASE TRANSFER IS THE TOP REASON, AS WELL AS THE PHYSICAL ABUSE YOU RELATED EARLIER. AND OF COURSE ADD INTO THAT THE DIFFERENCES NEEDED IN PROPER CARE AND DIET AS WELL. ALL OF THAT ADDS UP TO ~~ CHICKENS + QUAIL = MUCH BAD JUJU

But dispite all this. It is up to the owner of both to decide. Some say that they great together, some say its bad. It all depends on the person, quail, and chickens. How you house them and etc.
