Rescued chick from cat (*Update* Coop page 26!)

Oh you poor thing. That is tragic! Floyd is one lucky dude to have been brought by that cat to you. I'm sorry for your loss. What a terrible thing to go through. No fun to lose a family member, even if it is a cat. Sorry you have to start your lives all over again. What a hard year for you all!

It definitely hasn't been easy by any means. It's an experience I wish on no one.

Here's a before and after pic. The coop isn't too badly burned like I mentioned. Shocking considering we lost the whole house, everything in it, my dad's garage shop that his dad built and a car. A tree had even fallen on the coop and it still stands.

Here's where my house stood. The area has been cleared and weeds have been growing the past three months. The coop is just to the right of this pic.

fezlet, I'm so sorry! I joined BYC right around the time you found Floyd and I loved following your story. I'm so sorry about your home and your kitty, and hope your neighbor does right by your family.

I just found this thread and I think I'm going to read the whole story now now. Just wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear about your house and the cat. And I think your brother was amazingly brave for risking his life to save your chickens. I don't know many people who who do that! Good luck and strength to you and you family.

Thank you all for you kind words. It really means a TREMENDOUS amount to me to know people care. It eases the sadness.

And yeah appylover, I just can't believe my brother ran RIGHT beside a burning collapsing house with burning tree limbs falling around him to save my chickens. My dad had gone into the back door while it was burning to see what he could grab, if anything, but he said the smoke was too thick to look for anything. Something about men, the south, and things on fire... turns them into lunatics.

Something interesting though that puts the heart to ease. Friday I heard a solitary baby kitten whimpering under some of our house rubble while I was tending my flock. Absolutely tiny, probably day old. I've been having to bottle feed her because the cat that we believe to be the mom refuses her. Here's the kick, she looks just like Minpin :) Grey brindle colored. My mom swears it's Minpin reincarnate. My little phoenix kitty.

Thank you heather. You've been with me through the whole thing. And the neighbor has done all that he can. He can't give us back the priceless though.

Sumi,

thank you :)

I got round to reading the thread. Wow, what a journey! From a rescue chick to a small flock, complete with drama, disease a sad loss and a hero. Again: wow!

I just read this entire thread when there are other things I should be doing. Great story. My heart got into this. You seem to be an amazing person, along with you family and boyfriend. Sorry about the loss of your family home, your cat and your silkie. I love Floyd! He's one lucky rooster:). And the new kitten...it's funny how it was found in the rubble of your home and that it looks just like Minpin...that's God's hand I believe, just like with Floyd's entrance into your life.

That is the best Chick story EVER! It is so amazing how you don't plan to get chickens and all the sudden you have alot!
