I just came home from the feed store. They was onelittle turkey, had its leg stuck in the wire...its weak....and they was going to toss it in the trash.....I also got a production red.....it was wet, and very weak. It too was going in the trash. I have them home, in a heated nursery. Both are peeping...softly. HELP! What do I do!??? I put 1 teaspoon of sugar in a quart jar of water. Dipped the beaks. What else can I do!?? I dont want them to die. They deserve a chance as well!

Well, Sadly...the little turkey didnt make it. I tried....it is so sad. I was hopeing to have a big ole turkey walking around. At least it had a few hours of a great careing life.

The little production red is doing great....leg is fine...hopping around like nothing happened. Its a little fighter....hopeing it is a hen...and if so...I am going to need a name! something strong.

Well, so far I think you are on the right track. All I know is what I have read here on the boards. I have to admit though, This is one of my favorite sections. I am hoping to learn alot and not panic when things happen to my birds.

How old are the chicks? You can always go the plain yogart, or cooked oats route. The sugar water is something I have seen alot of people use.

Keep them warm and give theim drinks. Can the one with the hurt foot stand on his foot, or is it broken?

try the yogart if you have any. and search the forum here. Do you remember when bayouchica got those rescue chicks? If you can find that thread it would be most helpful.

good luck and keep me posted please.

Well......I gave them sugar water.....but I was afraid I didnt mix it right...so, Off to town I went after some pedialite (sp). 45 min drie there and home.By the time I got home...the little production red was dry..and runing around peeping!!

I think that one is going to make it. It was pecking at the little turkey, so I removed it to the brooder with my other 2 week olds...and she blended right in....made her way to the feed...and settled in for the night. She was just wet and cold. But when I got her, she would lay on her tummy....feet out behind her, and wings out. Didnt look good.
The little turkey.....well...not so good...laying there...almost gasping for air....and eyes closed.

I SO wanted the little turkey to make it. I wanted them both to make it, but I dont have a turkey...and this is a burbon red. Sigh....im stil trying with this little one.....pedialite...92 degrees in the nursery...and a soft wash cloth to lay on. Doesnt look good tho.

say a little prayer for it. It deserves to live too!

All I would know to do is pretty much what you are doing. Keep them warm, food and water nearby, I think the sugar water should give them a little boost. A vit/electrolyte mix in the water would probably be the best thing at this point.

Are they eating or drinking on their own? It may be that they just need a little r&r and a nice place to regain their strength. How old do you think they are?

I am guessing at least a week old on the production red. s/he has wing feathers. The little turkey still has an umbelical cord hanging from its tummy...all dried up, and a little red around it. Poor little turkey..I sang to it for a while....Jesus loves the little turkeys...all the turkeys of the world... LOL praying for it to get better.....but not thinking it will make it.

What about garlic? Garlic has antibiotic properties, perhaps you could smush a clove into the water- it wont hurt the chick at all, and might help the turkey if the cord is not healing well. How is the leg?

I'm so sorry - poor little guy.
