Large hard gizzard

I don't think the gizzard empties in the 24 hours without food. You are mainly trying to empty the crop.Must not have been a very intense workshop if they did not cover gizzard cleaning.I usually split the gizzard and clean with water when I am butchering than later in the I peel them and cut all the white stuff off.

All bird gizzards I have ever eaten are pretty much the same except for size. Duck has a little stronger taste. You do need to remove the lining. It is tough and tastes bad. I have eaten plenty of birds I shot that were feeding. Gizzard and crop were both full, and the meat and giblets were fine. However, I don't believe in wasting food, even chicken feed. So pen your bird the day before and just give it water. The chicken won't gain weight on its last day. Fasting the bird for a day will help in purging the gizzard, but it is still yucky inside. Wash it well. It is my favorite bird meat
