Last winter we kept our duck with our chickens in the coop/run. I wrapped the bottom with heavy duty plastic sheeting to insulate from the wind. Threw down pine shavings and at night I would physically put her in the hen house with the girls since she was a lone duck I worried about her being alone at night. We bought a duckling this spring and I started building a 3 sided duck house directly under the hen house, like the downstairs apartment in our "squawk box"
so that they could have a shared nest filled with warm insulated bedding. Unfortunately he died yesterday (unknown causes) and so I have been thinking of winterizing again. I think I am sticking with the original plan to build a nest box for her underneath the hen house.
