Chicken/Pigeon combination housing

Hi, I have no answers for you and wondering the thing. I was at a chicken show this weekend and came across some fantails and fell in love.

I live in florida and have a coop that is large, almost 2 stories and fully enclosed. I can not seem to find much about there lofts???? It looks to me like a shelf? but what else needs to in a loft to keep a pigeon happy?

I wonder if they can live with chickens? Will they fly away if we open the coop door?

I think they are beautiful and I would love to have one or two.

I will watch and see if you get any advice.

All pigeon want to home, will stay put ,unless racing homer then they will want to home back to there old home..

Roosters or mean hens will sometime try to kill pigeon. Fantails would be easier for them to catch ,but most other breeds would be able to stay out of harms way, unless right out of the nest.

My dad had about 15 pigeons when we lived in Florida. I was too young to remember much about them but he said he would let them out in the mornings, they would fly away and they would always return at night. I would LOVE to be able to have pigeons like that. My dads memory isn't what it used to be and I asked him what kind of pigeons they were, but he doesn't remember. They were kept in something like this:

Hi and thanks for the nice reply. The best part is that you still have your dad to ask that kind of question to. I still have both my parents and my dad will be 93 December the 6th. My mom 86 in Jan. It is fun to ask your parents stuff like that. It makes them think and takes them back to the good old days.....?????

I love the pigeons and there is just something about them?? Sooner or later will have some, I was just hoping they could co-exist with the chickens some how. I wonder if I started them both as babies Together????
Thanks, Amy

I would design it on paper, with 2 separate entrance doors, a solid partition (just in case they don't like each other!) and just dream up the best of both worlds. On the left chickens with nest boxes, run ---- On the right pigeon loft with height adjusted to make my life easy and flight fun!
