I don't know why MPC sells them supposedly sexed. all other hatcheries do not sell bantams sexed because it doesn't take a skilled person to do a large fowl chick's wing sexing, bantams the wing feathers can't tell you sex.... Vent sexing takes someone with a keen eye, gentle hand, and knowledge and lots of practice. Large fowl chicks its about 90% accurate even with the best sexers. Bantams its near impossible because they are so small and so fragile, thats why most hatcheries in the US stopped doing it, they couldn't guarantee their success rate nor could they afford losing so many babies to internal injuries they received from the sexing method.


I only see one for sure roo in your bunch, 1 of the whites is a good maybe. the rest I won't even take an educated guess on at this point.

Look at the comb when it develops within two to three weeks of the chick's birth. a male will have a larger comb than a female.

Males are significantly larger than females, and this can be obvious a few days after hatching. This isn't considered a certain method of sexing though because you may just have a large female or a small male. It's also a poor method if you are trying to compare chicks from two different genetic lines.

Okay, My husband and I are on the fence with this ones sex. Can any of you confirm what this one is for me? I do not want to say what my DH and I think b/c I want an non-biase opinion.

can you try and get a clear shot of its neck up please? it looks like its going to be a hen but the feathers on the poof say roo though if you get a clearer pic then i can make a better guess as of now with the 2 blurry pics i'm swinging both ways sad

I know my camera stinks!! I will tell you I do see some feathering that would resemble a streamer but, they are not quite as pron. as the other ones I know are roosters. When I get home tonight I will try to steal my DH's camera and get you a better pictures smile

Okay see I'm glad i asked for someone else eyes b/c my DH and I were convinced this was a cockrel but, it doesn't act like one and the only thing that made us think it was a cockrel was b/c of its feathering that resembles small streamers out the back of its head. Have you seen pullets grow them too?  I guess the other thing that is making question my sex of this bird is b/c it's flock mates non-related cockrels same age have huge walnut combs starting and this one has a small bump that resembles a hen.

for instances this cockrel I am going to paste a not so great pic but, you can clearly see a roundness to his comb and the color change happening. This cockrel is the same exact age.

were did you get this one from? hatchry, breeder,ect. have you looked closly at the hackle feathers around their necks. a roos will be pointed
