Congrats to all on your new baby chicks!!! Love all the pics!!! So CUTE!!!!
We lost one this morning that was hatched Wed or Thur at the State Fair which was given to my daughter. It was a Double Tuffed BBR Araucana. She was so excited to get another tuffed Araucana. It just started acting sleepy and lazyish last night. We think it was due to the lethel gene. The tuffs were really big and really visable. Probably would of been a really good show bird but that is just how it goes with the Araucanas.
Our daughter was pretty upset last night when we got home from the State Fair with all her birds and found it acting that way. My husband and I both knew when we saw it that it probably would not make it through the night. We had hatched one several months back that did the same thing. The non-tuffed one thrived and the one with the great double tuffs died within like 2 of 3 days of hatching.
All other chicks are great and running around eating like crazy!! We bought home more White Silkies and Yokohomas chicks yesterday from the State Fair. I hope my Puff Ball has at least one Cockerel friend in those baby Silkie chicks!
We are overrun with Chicks!!!!

Well momma bird got off 2 eggs yesterday after sitting on them well over 24hrs of the other 4 hatching and me putting a extra chick a few days older than the ones she hatched under her...so I went ahead and opened them up.. both still alive but looked like inner membrane was shrunk all around them...one had very shallow breathing and never even broke through so I opened were the beak was and put it in incubator the other one had its beak through membrane at least....the first one died probaby 4 hrs later, yolk sack not absorbed and I helped the other one all day yesterday every few hours and by the time I was going to bed I had the chick pretty much out of shell except there was clear mucus like thing stuck from belly to shell...so I wrapped baby in warm moist cloth and stuck it in bator hoping for best but not expecting much since it didn't open eyes and was real weak. Woke this morning to find eyes open and it floppin around in bator with more fight this morning membrane still attached so I clipped it off closest to shell so when it moved around it wasn't draggin and pulling on what was still attached to belly.
I know a lot of people say just leave it, weak ones ment to pass on...well this whole week has been my very 1st hatch ever and I was going to try and not lose any. I had no idea what I was doing really so between taking my time putting it back in the incubator and pulling off a little shell at a time...back in bator I was googling, checking you tube and searching BYC. I had learned it was a very doubtful baby would live...so far so good...we will seein a couple of hours how its doing . So far between the incubator, my broody and now my assistance 6 out of 7 hatched.

The egg I had due to hatch last week but didn't and I left it until day 25(saturday) and nothing so I candled and no movement or sound so did the dreaded eggtopsy and the poor little thing moved a teeny bit and took a breath and died but just hadn't seen to have grown past day 15 or 17 it was so tiny to be a reg size chicken so i rechecked my dates to make sure i hadn't accidently killed it but I hadn't. When I looked it over it had a very large blood vessel and tons of fluid and yolk and when I touched it it's feathers came off. My hen was a little upset so I gave her 2 freshly laid eggs and she was happy so I'm hoping these 2 hatch around Nov 15th so Grayson wil have a playmate

Hey guys, sorry i havent posted on this thread for a while. I would just like you to know that i will no longer be putting the list of 'current hatchers'. Sorry if i have not put your name on the list yet. I am no longer doing the list becacuse there are so many people on this thread and my eggs have since hatched. Sorry if you felt 'left out'. I hope all your chicks hatch! Good luck!
