Finding chicken shows and contests

So I am going to be totally new to showing silkies.  I have joined the silkie club, and I am sure there will be information there for specific silkie shows, but what about other shows and such?  what is the best way to go about finding out where and when they are.  How do you protect your birds from diseases and such while you are at a show?

Silkies and Nigerian Dwarfs, I love my life.

if you can find a local poultry club, that will get you started. if you have trouble finding them, start with the fairs, ask around. someone is bound to know about the poultry club and post on craigslist for your area.

If you love your chicken, thank a breeder. NPIP tested

Subscribe to the poultry press. They list all the poultry shows that are upcoming and show results of shows, classified ads, breeders ads etc. It is a great source of info of the poultry industry. $26/year - 12 issues   www.poultrypress.com
